This is the 4th 13th colony product I have reviewed and it is my favorite of the bunch. 13th Colony Southern Rye Whiskey is in-your-face bold rye that is great to drink neat and makes an amazing Old Fashioned and Manhattan. In the glass, it has a medium amber hue to it and it coats the sides of the glass nicely. On the nose, I get baking spices like nutmeg and clove and no ethanol. The body is wonderful and long with the spice lingering on my tongue with a little burn to let you know you are drinking something for grown-ups. The finish is long with some woody notes showing up and a long finish. As far as mixed drinks I stated earlier that this makes an amazing Old Fashioned and it does. The Manhattan is where this shines with cheap vermouth it is great and with Cocchi Vermouth di Torino it is a thing of beauty. The full flavor of the rye goes very well with the vermouth. I really like this rye. I picked it up for around $33 but I have seen it for as much as $42. If you are a fan of rye whiskey and like bold flavors, this is an easy yes. Enjoy.

Aroma - Bazooka Joe bubblegum, slight red-hot candies.. Oh my.. came back and I’m getting root beer float note.. wow that is crazy. Reminds me of much simpler times and it brought me back to a very fond memory of my Grandma. I honestly don’t want to review the nose anymore than this…. I’m so sorry.. it’s too nostalgic for me.. just want to leave it at that and reminince on some amazing childhood moments. Taste - A Very bready-rye. There are some darker notes coming through (berries and molasses).. Still getting a slight root beer note here. Very light hints of mint on the finish. Was hoping for more Overall - Yeah….. it’s good and above average at the price point. Viscosity and finish are extremely thin though which is to be expected at 95 proof… But Wish I didn’t have to go through Seelbach’s to acquire it. Probably wont pull the trigger again on unless I see it on the shelves at MSRP. (Just not worth MSRP+shipping costs along with the the low proof)

Nose: tons of rye. Like tons. Candy corn there as well. Honestly a pretty good nose. Palate: hot at first. Stays hot mostly but you can taste the rye and sweetness a little. Finish: short and sweet. That’s it Overall: not the worst thing. I was dead against buying but my fiancé wanted it so she bought it. Definitely not disappointed. Probably wouldn’t get again but it’s not bad!

This is a pretty good whiskey for the price. Strong alcohol burn on the nose with a bit of an oaky background. Good mouthfeel, coats and the flavors stay around. Sweet with a hint of vanilla up front, with a change to a strong leather finish. This reminds me so much of Johnnie Walker Blue at 20% of the price.

I enjoy the 13th bourbon, however this french oak finish on this rye is way too heavy handed and overtakes the entire sip. Definitely not something i would be looking to have again so it will sit and be shared with rhise rhat can appreciate. Not undrinkable but just way too finished and not my jam.

First pour i didnt like as much been came back to it a few days later and it opened up more. Better rye experience second go round, plus for a sub $40 bottle cant beat it with a stick. I like thr southern bourbon of their expression slighlty better but not mad about the purchase
