Pavilions/Vons/Albertsons barrel pick. Barrel 8191. Color: medium/light copper Nose: Oak, caramel, sweet Palate: Medium/slightly creamy mouth feel. Spicy and sweet, slight chest hug. More woodiness/oak tannins. Bitter cherry on the back end. Finish is medium with a buttery quality. This is very good. Since it's a store pick, I'm thinking I should grab another bottle before it's gone, because it's definitely worth a second purchase. I'll be interested in what I get from future pours. I have a feeling this is a bottle that will evolve over time. Solid 3.75. I hesitate to give it a 4 at this time, because I reserve 4 and above for bottles that knock me out from the get-go. But I won't be surprised if I decide to give this a bump before I finish this bottle. Added 6/30/23: Second visit with this bottle... got a good dose of vanilla and maybe a hint o' molasses, as well, on the nose this time 'round. Same spicy-sweet-oaky palate as in my first pour/review. My score holds at 3.75. Solid bourbon for the price. 1792 has yet to disappoint me. Added 7/14/23: Bottle-kill pour. Nice peanutty flavor that I did not get from the first and subsequent pours. Score stands at 3.75 stars, but JUST misses 4. I noticed this week that my grocery store sold out of this barrel pick. So it's officially in the books.

Many years ago, a buddy of mine bought a bottle of 1792 small batch on a whim from Total Wine and I remember thinking it was passable. Through the years, I'll catch whisperings of the brand but nothing widespread, almost like its some sort of well kept secret. That or maybe I'm hearing people whisper about 1792 who... really haven't delved deep into the bourbon segment. We shall find out. The nose smells strong of fruit. Sugary sweet canned pears, apple peels and bananas open the smell with a bouquet of fruitiness. The nose is quite tame and delicate beyond this, I can get whisps of cotton candy, vanilla and just a light dusting of cinnamon. The palate certainly isn't as fruity as the nose suggests. Right off the bat there is some creamy vanilla, caramel and about mid taste the baking spice kicks in but not overpoweringly so. As you continue to taste, there is definitely some of the fruit lurking in the background. Notably some of that pear but because it comes mid taste, it takes on a drier quality. The finish is dry and spicy. Cinnamon, oak and green peppercorns finish off the otherwise fruity and sweet overall character of the bourbon. This selection is quite mild and pleasant to drink. A great little bottle to share with friends who are new to bourbon.

1792 Series (4 of 10): Single Barrel Did you know: Barton 1792 has a whopping 30 barrel aging warehouses. I mean 29. Whoops. 29. Too soon? Nose is banana. Cream. Sugar. Menthol. Mint. Body is caramel, brine, pit fruits, fruit punch. Lemon. Grass. Finish is lemon, cherry, cinnamon, more brine. Bit of apple. This is good, but it’s not what you’d expect from a single barrel of a good whiskey (small batch). I often get the impression that small batches are compromises: the best stuff is diluted with inferior stuff for the sake of volume. I get the opposite impression here. This single barrel is one piece of a recipe, and it is not yet whole. With 4 down, I still do not see any reason to ever stock a 1792 whiskey that is not small batch, and that tall-boy handle is looking better by the day. Edit: I just mixed small batch into this single barrel, and it actually did make it more dynamic and enjoyable. Looking forward to the next on-deck: 1792 Single Barrel Store Pick, aka beige neck 2.0

Barrel Pick, "North Carolina Select 2022" Open 5 months Nose - Strawberry and cherry candy, light caramel, honey, Frosted Flakes, light oak, and light ethanol. Palate - Cherry Jolly Rancher, berries 'n cream, honey crisp apple, watered down caramel, light cinnamon, and light rye spices. Finish is medium-short with the first hint of oak tannins, creamy vanilla and berries, and light ethanol. For the money these are great. I've never been disappointed with a 1792 Single Barrel, but because this is so light and creamy it's rarely my first choice. If you like lower proof bourbon this is a must-try and great gift. I do wish we had any lick of information on these barrels, but that's Sazerac for you in a nutshell. Slap a single barrel label or sticker on a bourbon/rye and watch the masses hunt it down like it's special.

N: Cinnamon, butterscotch, banana, charred oak, ethanol (and a little too much of that). P: Caramel cream, butterscotch, milk chocolate, cinnamon. F: Lot's of heat in the transition. Charred oak, banana, banana bread, cinnamon, faint mineral bitterness, long lingering brown sugar sweetness. This is my favorite of the Barton's. Really, it's the only one I would repeat, assuming I find it without a markup - I've seen it both ways. _______ Please come join an unofficial Distiller community on Discord: https://discord.gg/VSmCvzAQfH. Aroma - lots of dark fruits and caramel coming through. Lots of vanilla cake notes … lightly charred marshmallow… Light notes of baking spices. Really nice balance here. Solid. Taste - oak, hints of butterscotch and sometimes even slight marshmallow. As it opens, the rye profile kicks in… baking spices, winter green gum. Overall - For the proof it has a really nice flavor profile and the finish is above average. In fact I think it drinks above its proof too which makes it a bit more intriguing for me. This is a really nice bottle and I’d be happy to pull the trigger on it again at the $50 price point.
