Nose: The Auchentoshan American Oak greets the senses with a bouquet of vibrant aromas. As the glass nears, a welcoming scent of vanilla and coconut, reminiscent of a warm, tropical breeze, emerges. A hint of toasted oak lingers in the background, a testament to its American oak aging, which imparts a gentle, woody character. Palate: Upon the first sip, the whisky reveals its smooth and approachable nature. The vanilla from the nose is more pronounced, evoking the creamy richness of a well-crafted vanilla bean ice cream. The oak influence is more evident here but overall taste is a bit too simple. Finish: The finish of the Auchentoshan American Oak is as graceful as its beginning. It leaves a lingering sweetness on the palate, reminiscent of caramel and honey. This is coupled with a soft, oak-infused warmth that gently fades, inviting another sip. Overall: Auchentoshan American Oak is great for its price, but too simple. Maybe it would be more interesting in 43 or 46 ABV. And another AI picture)

Delicate nose at first, with lots of light fruity notes, and some lemon citrus as well. Then you find a bit of vanilla and wood char, which I would imagine could be attributed to the American Oak barrels. The expert review mentioned ginger and I have to say I’m super impressed because it took me a long while to hunt for that note but it is there for sure, if you look deep. Ironically as soon as I found the ginger note I lost that charred note and was left with those sweet fruity notes again. This whiskey has a lot going on for a lowland, but it’s never aggressive. For the price, I’d highly recommend it.
I had to work real hard to find something interesting here. I found it to be thin and floral and too much of a p*ssy to even stand up to water. Water obliterated this. It’s probably the fluoride. It was From the hose after all. Not my hose. My neighbors. I’ve got hose in all area codes. Not a lot of water, mind you, Just a few drops I shook from the end of it. It’s a trick I learned from having to urinate daily all these years with the machinery I was born with. But anyway yeah this was destroyed by a few drops of water and I was bummed.
I'm sorry to say I am not a fan. This is probably the blandest scotch I've ever tried. I'm not sure I agree with the the description that this is a good stepping stone from burbon. If this had been the first scotch I tried it might have been the last. I've tried adding drops of water, ice, whiskey stones, and smoke. Nothing really helps. This one is in my polite pass group.
This is incredibly well balanced. A light smokiness greets the nose like sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows. There is some fruity sweetness there as well. Vanilla and sweetness open the palate. There are some spicy notes that fade into cinnamon. This has a creamy mouthfeel. Wonderful balance and complexity. This will have a permanent place on my shelf!
Light bodied and quaffable, it’s actually got a lot going on, albeit not earth shaking. Restrained citrus, tropical fruit, honey, barley, malt, barrel spices, milky tea, vanilla and chocolate notes battle ethanol and astringency to a standstill.
