Flaviar Advent Calendar #3 Nose: smoke is present but restrained, a little spice and nuttiness. Caramel and a bit of baked fruit. Grain whisky is definitely noticeable Palate: a bit of smoke balanced with a sharp astringency of earth at first. Slight oak. As it sits mild vanilla and caramel come out. Grain whiskey is noticeable here too and a little sharp. Slight jamminess comes out as it rests. This one definitely needs to breathe. One note listed was dark chocolate, and I personally dont get that as much here but I can see why someone might. Finish: mild jam, oak tannin, thin and short.

Roderick McDougall 3.8

Sweet berries and caramel on the nose. Like a raspberry white chocolate pudding with some cinnamon and cloves baked into the cake. The palate is rich and spicy, with a slight medicininal, iodine, tone. The finish smooth and quick. Leaving the mouth feeling fairly clean. A good whiskey. A little above its price point. It’s a contender for a daily dram / house whiskey. I had to go back and really dig for any peated notes. It’s like picking up the smell of a neighbors BBQ from 3 blocks away… its the faintest of whiffs.

AnttiRG 3.5

An intense, Blended Scotch Whisky by A.D. Rattray Distillery in Scotland made with a blend of Whiskies from Islay, Speyside, Lowland Grain & Highland Malt aged for 5 years in American oak. It has an aromatic birth with notes of smoke, fruit, spice, smoke, vanilla, toffee, jam & ginger; while a bold & complex life adds notes of smoke, apple, dark chocolate & pepper; that leads to a long & spicy death with notes of smoke, nuts & cinnamon (Red Hots). Definitely smokier than the original. It’s not a pest bomb but right after the peat there is a sickly sweet almost antifreeze flavor after. It’s a poor man’s black label. I don’t completely hate it though.

CoinBag 3.5

Caramel, Burnt toffee, fruits, peppery peat. Really fantastic and nuanced bottle of blended scotch for the price. Much better than anything I've had from Johnnie Walker.

bourbonose 3.3

Sour nose mixed with peppery spice, tropical fruit, peat, cashew, and rich toffee. Peaty taste with mild sweetness, nuttiness and soft lingering heat. Medium finish
