About this bottle

This limited edition expression is a blend of straight whiskeys sourced from Indiana and Kentucky aged between 6-12 years in American oak. It is then finished for 3 weeks in different oaks: pure 2 oak stave, spice rack oak stave, sweet shoppe oak stave, and charred barrel. 87% of this blend is then re-blended with 13% of a Tennessee whiskey that was matured a minimum 17 years. It is bottled at 109 proof.

This is a complicated one, blending two ryes and a bourbon, splitting it up with four different staves then the reblending and adding a 17 yr Tennessee whiskey. Beautiful sweet nose with light cherry cola, pie dough, oak, leather, and clove in the background. The palate is not quite as complicated, but has many of the same notes, but the oak comes forward followed by spicy pepper, fading to pie dough, and finally finishing with a slightly astringent alcohol. The nose is the best part of this whiskey and interestingly, I only get the astringent finish if I do not nose it first.

Bottle #2967, 109 Proof. Sweet nose, oily smooth mouthfeel and a warm cinnamon finish. Excellent! Purchased at the distillery. 01/21/23 - Finished this bottle tonight; still amazing! Wonder sweetness, viscous mouthfeel and just the right amount of heat on the finish. Recommend picking one up! It’s on my shopping list for my next trip to Bardstown!

Nose is wonderful. Sweet, oaky, everything you want. Taste was heavy wood, oak. Revisiting gets a burnt vanilla caramel - like if you brewed a vanilla caramel coffee, it sat for an hour and then microwaved to heat up - sounds rough but taste better than it sounds. It’s too one dimensional (wood). Good, but not something I’m reaching for all the time

Nose is vanilla frosting, hints of toffee/heath bar, with some baking spice and oak undertones. Palate is rich and oily and very well rounded. Palate is salted caramel, intense oak and undertones of cedar and it opens up with fiery cinnamon and a long lasting finish. I love this bottle. Bardstown doesn’t miss.

James Willson 4.5

Really awesome nose that jumps out of the glass. Palate is a little more subdued, starting off with spice and moving to a very woody finish. Great mouthfeel and viscosity. Overall, an exceptional whiskey. Would have given this a 4.75, but ticking off .25 for value.

Nose is strong with vanilla, butterscotch, and spice. Full mouthfeel. Complex flavors of vanilla, a hint of chocolate or a port like flavor, with a great cunnamon heat finish
