Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium-dark amber. Nose: Maple syrup, berries, and dark fruit. Palate: Smoky, with oak and a little salt. Thick mouthfeel. Finish: Long length with medium heat. Splash: No new flavors are revealed, but the smoke and salt become more prominent. Overall: 8.5/10 - This has a nose like an aged rum, but then it's all Islay. The bourbon notes are there in the mouthfeel and the finish, but the scotch notes overpower the typical bourbon flavors. Still, this is one of the better scotch/bourbon hybrids that I've had. Maybe a little less time in the secondary barrel would have let more bourbon flavor come through.
Barrell Bourbon Cask Finish Series: Tale of Two Islands (Release 001)
About this bottle
This bottling from Barrell Craft Spirits is one of two releases in the brand's new Cask Finish Series featuring blends of straight bourbons with unique finishes. Here, BCS blends Indiana straight bourbons (aged 5, 6, and 9 years) with Maryland straight bourbon aged 5 & 6 years. This vatting was then finished in casks from BCS's 2018 Tale of Two Islands Rum, a Jamaican rum which was matured in peated Islay single malt barrels. (The overall mash bill equivalent 73% corn, 23% rye, 4% malted barley). It was bottled at cask strength. Available fall 2023. (SRP $89.99)

Unique tasting bourbon. Light spice notes and some honey. Barrels really come through. Starts hot but smooths out with some ice after about 10 minutes. Great value.
Just didnt do it for me. Ive had better for half the price. For $80 a bittle… this was disappointing.
Has to be the highest I've ever rated something with this high of ABV. Love it!
Nice flavor and finish overall
