Nose was relatively light and surprisingly so, considering that the first sip gives an immediate full bodied smoke coursing right down the throat. Finish wasn’t long but gave a rounded tinge of oak. Pleasantly amazed, great find.
About this bottle
Released in May 2022, Benriach Smoky Quarter Cask is a bottling is a nod to the early 1970s when the Speyside distillery had reverted to making whisky in the 19th century style by using malted barley smoked with Highland peat. Here the distillery used a combination of unpeated and peated single malt which was first matured in ex-bourbon barrels. Then the whisky was placed into bespoke quarter casks to finish its maturation. It's bottled with natural color at 46% ABV.

Nose: Smoke, ash, vanilla, pear, lemon Palate: Smoke, brine, ash, pear, nuts Finish: Smoke, ash, lemon, nuts Actually one of the excellent NAS bottlings out there.
Lemon first, then a sweet vanilla and green apple on the palate. The smoke is in the ashy finish. A very pleasant drinker.
Straw coloured. Sweet, smooth and smoky with a malty oak finish. Very nice sipper!
Hard to get a better daily sipper than this one. Nice, smooth, and smokey,
Buttery smokiness, what we in Sweden call smök
