A tasty young rye with a slightly sweet finish. A good gateway for people new to the spirit, as evidenced by the warm reception it was getting from curious vegetable shoppers stopping at the New York Rye Week stall at Union Square Greenmarket today. (That’s curious people, not people shopping for curious vegetables, though there’s no shortage of them at this market.)

Is this called Empire rye now? Dusty grain nose. Baking spices muddled with nuts and grain. Wood in finish. May go well with a lemon twist.
The smell reminds me of that pencil box I had in elementary school, mixed with colored pencils, eraser shavings, etc. Takes me back lol
A lot of leather and dried fruit up front, giving way to orange peel, wood, and anise. Young, wacky rye.
