Nose: There is an obvious sherry quality to the nose and even a hint of port wine. Honey, malt, dried fruit. Palate: The entry is sweet with raisins, stone fruits, a little malt extract and some mild spice. It’s easy to drink and the texture is fine. It’s a very harmonious and approachable palate. Finish: Medium. Fruit cake and a lingering light sweetness. Although there are no age statement or casking details on the bottle the Wild Distillery website states that this is 8 years old and matured in three different cask types, but the only type they mention specifically is wet PX casks. The nose and sweet arrival certainly testify to this PX influence. It’s a simple but perfectly acceptable sherried whisky. If I did not know what it was I’d guess something like a sherried Glen Moray and if this was in a blind tasting lineup I’d be very surprised if anyone thought it was anything other than Scottish. It reminded me of the generic, but often quite good, sherried scotch whisky you find at Aldi. Impossible to dislike, but not a necessity to buy. If you see it at a good price it’s worth a taste. “Above Average” : 82/100 (3.25 stars)
