About this bottle

The first of three new releases from Bladnoch to celebrate the reopening of the distillery. This expression is a non-age statement single malt matured in a combination of first-fill Californian red wine and first-fill former bourbon casks. The whisky is non chill-filtered and has no added color. 'Samsara' means "rebirth". Note: This is not currently available in the US.

N: really interesting and engaging. Mixed fruits with perfumed blossom like smells and soft vanilla. Quite excellent. P: Short and punchy, popping flavours, sweetly winey with gentle cherry, but also chocolate, vanilla and a malty undercurrent. Really exciting, everything is delicate but capable of holding weight and presence with every flavour. There is a szechchaun pepper that comes and goes, quite aggressively though. F: Restrained, very winey and a little syrupy with gentle warming pepper. Would benefit from a little more integration and balance. The cherry could be more developed and the pepper toned down. Distiller whisky taste #78

Sits on the palate like actual jam, richness and viscoscity of the California Red-Wine finish is a treat. I go straight to Dried Fruits and Bramble notes, the unique grass of most Bladnoch Whisky tails in the background like an acoustic guitar on a summer day. The Floral notes of a lot of Lowland Malts blends with the grass making it standout without being too left-field. Nose: Cream, Raisins, Fresh Cut Apples ( Royal Gala and Autumn harvest apples to be exact.) Palate: Dried Fruits, Floral Grass, Full-Body, Bramble Finish: Rich/Viscous, Tannins, Orange Peel, Lemon Peel 4/5

Maybe it was cos it was the 6th dram of the night but it's colour seemed to suggest a stronger flavour than it delivered. The nose was weird it smelled of cheese and I thought maybe they didn't wash the glass properly but then I saw other reviews that said baby puke or similar so I wasn't imagining that one. I didn't find it offensive just odd. Once you got past that you got the sweet red wine and orange notes coming through subtly.

Far more interesting than the 79 points would imply. Fruity, grassy, spice and some sour barley notes on the nose. Oily on the palate with spice up front followed by earthy and nutty flavors mixed with fruit. Very intriguing and complex for what I assume is a young-ish (NAS) malt. Will be glad to explore further and purchase other expressions in the future. Correct rating: 85.

A- amber +1 (color added) N- vanilla, toffee, honey, burned sugar, rum punch, banana P- creamy arrival, light spicy, full, rich, oily, honey, toffee, vanilla, walnuts, creme brûlée, banana, raisins, tart, rum cake F- medium finish, creamy-nutty-sweet aftertaste C- NAS dram ( I believe it should be at least 8 YO) balanced and very pleasant

Honestly this is a better scotch whisky then most mostly cause it’s aged in America in California and bourbon casks. Happy to say this will be my new regular sipper
