About this bottle

This release from Bruichladdich is made entirely from organic barley grown at Mid Coul Farm in the north of Scotland just east of Inverness. The barley was harvested in 2009 and the whisky was distilled the following year using Islay spring water. Aged for eight years in American oak casks which previously held bourbon. The whisky is non-chillfiltered and has no color added. Bottled at 50% ABV.

This naturally coloured golden elixir of sweetness truly made for quite an enjoyable dram. Using organic barley and aged for 8 years, Bruichladdich has done a great job of distilling this complex whisky. I'll admit - it took me time to identify the specifics of the flavour profile, but it began to reveal itself over time. Straight from the pour, the scent of honey emanates and lingers through to your palate which is then followed by a touch of salt and spices. The finish doesn't last long, unfortunately, but is just enough to tease and welcome another sip. Overall, a decent and enjoyable bottle from Islay. NOSE: Sultana, ice wine, honeycomb, oak, green apples, confectioners' sugar, apricot PALATE: Honey, sweetened cream, cloves, spices, fresh oak FINISH: Sea salt, salted caramel, barley, malt, charred oak Rating: 84/100 Grade: B Good - not a "must", but a nice-to-have.

Color - light, pale golden straw. Nose - first pass best described as buttery. Taking some time reveals a creamy lemon bar note, melon, vanilla and very slight sweet oak Palate - the buttery cream note from the nose immediately translates to a buttery mouthfeel with the vanilla, slight lemon, and a hint of pepper on the back end. Medium finish that makes you want to return for more. For me this dram is about the grain, it’s highlighted here with the aging in oak taking a back row seat. This is one I can taste the quality of the ingredients and the overall experience does not disappoint. On a 100 point scale this would be 87/88 for me, 3.75 for Distiller.

Extremely rich, yet light and refreshing. Vanilla and lemon cream. Barley sugars and hay. Sweet and salty. Super complex, interesting, and worth the price and more.

Soft, woody nose with undertones of fruit. Sharp flavor, full with some spice, raisin, and oak. Good long finish leaving hints of spice behind.

NOSE: apples, grapefruit TASTE: apples, toffee FINISH: long lasting & oily, tobacco in the end, apples at first

Sweet, sour, cake. Give it some time in the glass, it keeps on developing.
