During this past summer, I had been on a Gin kick and I tried a fair number of different styles and blends of gins. This is a solid easy-drinking gin that is nice but not quite good enough to break into my top 5 gins. The nose is smooth with a nice juniper start and some mild citrus early on and the citrus notes carry on through the sip. This mixes very well with everything I have made to date. My gin and Tonics are very good with this with the citrus notes show up in the drink. For Martinis, you have to use a good smooth dry or extra dry vermouth and be easy with it as this is only 80 proof and can get washed out easily. Overall, this is a good gin and it is better than many other gins on the market, but it is only 80 proof and the price is fair but there are several gins on the market that I like better for the same or lower price.
About this bottle
Bulldog Gin was created in 2007 by Anshuman Vohra, a former investment banker who wanted to create gin he felt contained flavors that were lacking in other gins. Working with a master distiller, Vhora named his gin in honor of the "British bulldog spirit" ---unyielding courage even in the face of overwhelming danger, a term often associated with British prime minister and gin drinker Winston Churchill. This gin uses 12 botanicals - juniper, dragon eye, white poppy, lotus leaves, lemon, almond, cassia, lavender, orris, licorice, angelica and coriander - and is bottled at 40% ABV.

Oh, man, dunno if it is dragon eye or poppy, but this one... tastes really great! Amazing gin. Real pleasure sipping it neat (even prefer it this way) or on the rocks. Great on the nose, real variative on the palate. Many subtle notes opening in a different way with an each sip. Great in G&T and dry martinis too. Best gin I’ve ever tried to date. Period.
Pretty standard fare medium juniper and hints of citrus in the nose, certain level of sweetness added neat, tonic at my usual sampling ratio mostly drowns the gin leaving primarily a certain bittersweetness. May have been at the forefront of the gin renaissance of the 2000s when it was created, but absolutely unremarkable over 15 years later.
Bought on sale at the liquor store. Delivers a pretty traditional take on London dry, but juniper and heat are the only notes I get out of it. Not a lot of nuance in the florals department. Good bargain brand for mixing, but I will still use beefeater or Tanqueray as my go-tos.
Smooth, soft but vibrantly floral with a gentle kick of citrus. The perfect middle ground between Tanqueray and Hendrick's. The smoothness and depth of Tanqueray with the citrus/rind and rose of Hendrick's. Mixes beautifully. $29 in Ontario.
Crisp and neutral gin flavor - but I don't really detect any specific botanicals. Decent choice for the price point, though. I think it will blend well with any cocktail flavors since it's neutral.
