Chivas Regal Extra 13 Oloroso Sherry Cask

Review #23 - Whisk(e)y #15 Nose - Not much to it really, does not seem to open up at all. Some faint woody oaky notes with honey, and it seems richer and more oily than the 12, with some dried, rather than fresh fruit, from the oloroso cask. But there is literally almost no smell! Taste - Effervescent, grainy, woody, much more oily and viscuous than the 12, slightly richer and heavier, with vanilla. I also believe that the spiciness is slightly different, richer in a sense, sherry cinnamony spice but it is still overly dominant, maybe even more so than in the 12, and its sweetness is diminished. I actually find it way too spicy. Also the malt is not noticeable at all anymore compared to the 12. Finish - Medium, maybe even medium-long actually, a lot longer than expected, and much longer than that of the 12. Slightly smoky dry in a sense, and slightly bitter at the end, with the same oiliness. On the aftertaste there are faint notes of milk chocolate, figs and dates. There is a little difference overall to the 12, still overly spicy, but richer, more oily and with a longer finish, with some more complex notes on the finish which can be picked apart. I would definetly not buy a bottle again though. If I would want something better than the 12, I would just go for the Chivas Regal 18, since that delivers way more. Even though Chivas Regal is quite a 'commercial brand' as I call it, they make damn good whiskies. As a bourbon lover, Chivas belongs to my favourite Scotch brands. This one smells very promising, with a milky-chocolatey kind of sweetness in the nose, i smell marshmallow, fresh hazelnuts and clotted cream with scones. I expected it to be fruity when entering my mouth, but this was not the case. Light and creamy, rich and sweet. Kinda fruity at front but mostly mellow and sweet. I taste licorice root, thick sweet cream and vanilla. Burnless and smooth aftertaste of licorice root again. Hint of ginger. Very sugary. I love it. The Oloroso casks do their job. Excellent choice, especially for this amount of money! A favourite.

The nose is simple, but pleasant. Aromas of sweet cinnamon, vanilla and pear. On the palate, flavors of blueberries, caramelized fruits and sweet sherry. The intense finish and rich flavors aren’t far off from the 12 y/o, but notably rounder and lighter. The Oloroso does good things for this whisky, and for the price, it kicks ass. However, it could definitely benefit from a higher proof.

* Nariz: frutos amarillos, pan horneado, aceptable integración alcohólica. También hay flores y ciertos tonos Herbales muy ligeros. * Boca: típico profile de sherry. Hay pimienta blanca aderezando cierto tono de vainilla y hierbas silvestres. Leve dulzor, no humo. Se puede encontrar ese tono de frutos amarillos. El gusto no es muy redondo. * Final: corto

Nose - Light berry. Woody. Slightly floral but not super aromatic. Palate - A lot of cinnamon and baking spice. Super light mouthful, almost as light as water. not thick but too light. Light fruit but not super refreshing. Finish - Cinnamon and baking spice continues through the back end but weakly.

Ámbar con cierta traslucidez. En nariz notas de melón flotando por encima de la malta, pera, banana. Pasas blancas. En boca ni seco ni dulce, notas de naranja más presentes. Leve astringencia larga. Suave en garganta. Resalta lo frutal dulce con leve agregado de agua, haciéndolo mucho más sabroso.
