About this bottle

Released in fall 2020, Coppersea's Excelsior Straight Rye made from all Hudson Valley grains (80% raw rye and 20% malted barley). It was twice-distilled in direct-fired alembic stills and the rye was aged at least two years in charred new oak barrels. Bottled at 48% ABV, this whiskey qualifies as an Empire Rye.

Flaviar 12/8/21 Blind Taste 2 - lots of bubbles persist upon pouring (likely a higher proof). Smells like buttered popcorn. Taste is very strong and unique, almost tinny or metalic. Sort of herbal but more leathery. Least favorite // Coppersea . The marmelade is the flavor I couldn’t put a finger on. Cherry and pecan with too much barley

πŸ‘ƒ: earthy and wheat notes with a hint of grape πŸ‘…: slightly acidic smoke notes with wood and char, and lightly metallic and oily 🏁: acidic and bitter, a fitting finish for the flavor This makes me think of wood shop - the smell of the wood and the oiled machines.

Deep dark spicy aroma. Rye but with a rich sweetness as well. A little bit of caramel toffee sweetness but then huge rush of spice. Rye overpowers everything, might be some citrus in there. The richness carries it.

Love getting my Flaviar shipments in, but I'll be honest, I struggle picking up a lot of of their flavor profile notes. This one is decent. Not too spicy. Relatively smooth.

Heavy marmalade. Sharp initial taste. Not a fan. Glad I tried it a Flaviar pack but won’t purchase a bottle.
