Have looked at the bottom shelf scotch and wondered if any of it was drinkable or is it like wretched Canadian whisky. They only seem to come in giant 1.75 bottles which is a big commitment if its garbage. Luckily this was available in 50ml size so I figured lets spin the wheel. Poured neat, decent legs and hey its 86.8 pf so there's that. Nose is weak with ethanol, a wisp of distant fruit and lack of malt. Better than expected mouth feel leads to palate of generic light sweetness and malt with oaky char. Has grain harshness but isn't too bad. Finishes with quick grainy alcohol and char. Overall not a lot of flavor or much of an experience but better than cheap Canadian and might work as a mixer. I will not be buying a handle of this or any other bottom barrel options ...........57/100........its drinkable I just don't wanna be the one doin it
Duggan's Dew O'Kirkintilloch
About this bottle
Duggan's Dew is a brand of blended Scotch that was popular before Prohibition, and when found in the states during that time, was known as "The Real McCoy." Importing began again in the 1940s. The chosen name O'Kirkintilloch is an inside joke referring to the Scottish town of Kirkintilloch, which was known for being dry.

Great inexpensive scotch for mixing, not bad by itself either. Nose presents more ethanol than one might expect, however past that is ripe banana and sweet cereal grains. The palette is sweet and a touch fruity, and a little spicier than expected. The finish is short but continues with sweet malt, and a touch of ethanol. Overall, quite pleasant for 12.95 a fifth. I have made a few cocktails with this, which have turned out very well. A whiskey sour made with this is both unique and pleasant, with the sweet maltey notes punching through the lemon juice. Even better however, is an old fashioned made with this. Somehow, it manages to amplify the ripe banana note I get on the nose, and it really plays nicely with angostura bitters. Overall, I'm a fan.
A bit harsh on both the nose and palette, but surprisingly pleasant. Mixes exceptionally well, which considering this is a no age statement US bottled hard bottom shelf blend is impressive. Overall I'd consider it very average but at the price it's at it's a deal. Taste is subjective but compared to stuff like Inver House and Clan Macgregor at similar prices it's substantially better. Additionally, due to the way the packaging is in terms of label and screw top design, the 86.8 proof specifically, the name being Duggan's Dew, and the tasting notes I get from it. I'm fairly confident the actual liquid in the bottle is an old recipe for Dewar's White Label.
A very tasty and sweet blend (without overmuch graininess) and a real bargain, almost at the level of Smuggler, which sets the standard. V nice w water only. A savvy scotch-blend drinker would prefer its taste to any number of more expensive anodyne blends.
Nose gives away a lot of speyside malt in thr blend. Tastes that way too. No real peat to speak of. Really not a bad blend, especially at $15. Definitely worth the asking price.
Harsh. If you are a scotch drinker, not sure why you would be this cheap. Probably not as bad as I'm passing it off to be, but do yourself a favor and take a step up.
