Damn! I used to think this was the worst whisky I've ever had, but it's really grown on me! Either it's mellowed out a bit after the 2 years since being opened or maybe it's my growing appreciation of various types of whisky (bourbon in particular) that has broadened my palate? Probably a bit of both since I was mostly an unpeated Scotch drinker prior to trying this whisky for the first time. Now that I've fallen in love with bourbon and peated Scotch I can finally enjoy Eddu Silver. This is not a beginners whisky. It is intense, complex and very different from any other whisky I've ever had. To think I nearly gave this bottle away after trying it for the first time!
About this bottle
Guy le Lay founded the Distillerie des Menhirs in 1986 to produce a Brittany version of apple brandy. 12 years later, the le Lay family decided to begin producing a whisky based on Brittany-grown buckwheat, creating the EDDU ("buckwheat" in the Breton language spoken in Brittany) brand. Their EDDU Silver Brocéliande is the world's only whisky distilled from a 100% buckwheat mash. Aged in barrels made from oak from the Brocéliande forest in Central Brittany. Note: This is currenlty only available in Europe.

EDDU Gold 43%vol. Notes boisées très présentes : vanille chêne, cèdre, boîte à cigare. Senteurs de fleurs séchées : rose, œillet, tilleul, fleur de thé. Épices délicates : cannelle, curry, noix de muscade. Caractères typique et suave du blé noir. Grande maturité aromatique. Persistance exceptionnelle au palais. !!!!
Being from Brittany, this buckwheat whisky makes me nostalgic. I love the sweet oiliness, the coppery blood like twang, the distinctive, strong, earthy flavour of Breton oak, it is truly one of a kind.
Comme la plupart des whisky frenchy, intéressant car français mais sans plus
