This one is infused with Caribbean rum and blinding this you would very much think you had a rum in front of you. An immensely aromatic nose filled with vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, apricot, honey, and green apple. Tasting - the caramel, brown sugar, vanilla hit the tongue hard creating a mouth watering sensation wanting further sips. A bit of a peppery note hits the back of the throat, but does not linger. This is a pleasant pour with one large flaw - the finish!!!! The flavors dissipate all too quickly making this a forgettable offering. Too bad this was not 100 proof where the notes would have a chance to linger. I like many of the Forty Creek offerings but always am disappointed with a lasting finish. Smell is enjoyable, kind of rhum and caramel. On the taste you can tell it was aged in barrel rhum you have a hint of it and at first you got a oaky taste with some fruit that unfortunately i can really tell and definitely got a strong caramel tsste with some spice. The finish is enjoyable creamywith spice and linger for a while. I compare with the forty creek barell reserve and i dont find it better just different, but more expensive.
I noticed the rum right away in how it changed the tasting notes of the typical whiskey. There's more of a caramel sweetness to this, and not the usual vanilla + oak that seems to go with most whiskies I try. It's a nice sipping whiskey though I found it does better with an ice cube and a few drops of water. Net, I like it but I've had other rum or Caribbean inspired whiskies I preferred.
Undrinkable. My neighbour gave me his bottle because he wasn't a fan and right off the bat the nose is awful. Smells like cheap Vodka. The taste is just awful, bitter rubbing alcohol is how best I can describe it. Not good, I'd advise you to pass by this.
I didn't really get the rum note. I add a little water, any more it loses a lot. Not great, not horrible, I would stick to Forty Creek Copper Pot which is superb.
It’s alright for mixing, nothing extraordinary, you would be better off buying a decent rum for the value instead.
