About this bottle

Created by Master Distiller Brent Elliott and Al Young, Four Roses' Sr. Brand Ambassador to honor Young's 50 years with the company. The bourbon recipe for this Limited Edition Bourbon is as follows: 5% 23 year-old OBSV, 25% 15 year-old OBSK, 50% 13 year-old OESV, and 20% 12 year-old OBSF. The bottle's retro design is inspired from Four Roses' 1967 design, the year Young started with the company. Bottled at cask strength, 10,000 bottles will be available and will debut at this year's Whisky Live Louisville in June 2017.

Nose- cherries; dusty, aged oak; old library books; vanilla; honey; almond croissants; floral wildflowers; raspberries Palate- Honey sweetness initially; baked cherry pie; old, dusty leather; musty oak; spearmint; red apples; caramel Finish- Long, creamy finish; vanilla custard; aged, balanced oak; raspberries; dusty leather This may be the most balanced dram I’ve ever encountered. Wow, this is amazing. An easy 5/5. The nose palate, and finish are all packed full of delicious flavors and tasting notes that go on and on. Throughout the entire experience is an old dusty oak note that is phenomenal. The price, though, is quite intense. Like $1000 intense. I would much prefer 3 2019 SMBLE’s than one Al Young for the money, and that’s only because the 2019 LE is so incredible on it’s own. Comparable to the 17 year Wild Turkey BiB that was just released, but just a bit more balanced and has more fruits and sweetness. Regardless of the price, this is one of the top drams of the past 5 years and really reinforces that Four Roses continues to do amazing things with their bourbon.

Four Roses Al Young 50th Anniversary Small Batch 2017 Limited Edition is an elegant, Straight Bourbon Whiskey from Kentucky made with a blend of 12- to 23-Year-Old Bourbons. It has a spicy & sweet birth with notes of vanilla & butter; while life adds floral & leather notes; that leads to a long & delicate death with notes of chocolate, acacia & cinnamon. May / October 2018 / August 2022

Wow. the nose on this is amazing. A bouquet of flowers initially followed by honey and caramel. Keep in mind this is after letting it rest for about 5 minutes. Packed with flavors of camel, honey, hits of oak. tastes sweet in general. This would be your special occasion sipper. Definitely one of my top five. I paid through the nose on this one, but it was worth it. Tried it neat.

The nose starts with vanilla and baking spices, followed up with oak, custard and a soft floral fruitiness. The palate is full of cinnamon and baking spices, with oak and vanilla balancing it out while followed by a floral tone, sweet fruit, caramel and buttered bread. The finish is long and peppery with creamy vanilla and oak that fades and fades.

This was good, but good in the way that many Four Roses selects are. Now that's not a bad thing, it's just that I've got a Binny's OBSO that I like just as much and it was $55 without having to deal the furious bubble of hype surrounding this one. Good, but I'm not sure what makes it stand out as a LE. Miss you, Jimmy.
