Garrison Brothers Cowboy Bourbon (2022 Release)

Garrison Cowboy no matter the year is in a league almost its own. Having this back to back against a bourbon you really love will be eye opening. It is amazing how Cowboy can dismantle and destroy pretty much all comers. There is a price to pay for that level of dominance however and this years offering tops out at $250(good luck finding at that price). I was able to wrangle a bottle from my whiskey connection in San Antonio at a bit under MSRP. Pour it out and let it breathe for a bit. Nose is pungent, thick and deep and takes time to unpack. Rich dark fruits wrapped in soft luxurious leather. Sticky simmered caramel and toffee, baking spices, sweet pipe tobacco and antique wood. Ethanol heat is non existent which is remarkable at proof allowing for deep inhales. Palate is explosion of singed pie crust, blackberry& fig, overcooked caramels and spice swimming in leather, tobacco and oak. Texas funk(flour/sawdust)supports the whole experience but less so than prior years. Finish is very long fade of palate notes drying out but never attaining bitterness. This is a succulent supreme bourbon that presents way beyond its years. The flavors are so dense its like they scraped out the barrels adding the (bourbon molasses ) back in. I have given 5 stars to the 2020 and 2021 editions of Cowboy and this warrants near 5 stars as well. It is a bit different with less blast of flavor punch and more refinement than before making it taste older which it is. If you have an opportunity to try or purchase any of the Cowboy recent releases do it. I would rate as follows 2020>2021>2022 but all are magnificent.........96/100

A truly impressive, high proof powerhouse. It needs time in the glass to open up, but as it does both the nose and pallet change in surprising ways while keeping the central flavor profile. Unique and worth the price of admission, it's hard to compare to another wheated premium bourbon due to the Texas white corn and aging conditions. Perhaps the most impressive aspect is the smooth, easy drinking quality the juice exhibits after some time to aerate. At nearly 140 proof, it's incredible how balanced the heat is with the rest of the flavors while it still coats the mouth as a high proof should. Many may question Garrison Brothers price point across thier offerings, but the 2022 Cowboy commands a high SRP for good reason.

Like mixing cola, Dr Pepper, and root beer with dark chocolate, cherries, nuts, bananas foster, honey, cinnamon, and leather. Nose: Cola, Dr Pepper, Dark Chocolate, Cinnamon, Maple Syrup, Honey, Butterscotch, Bananas Foster, Twix Bars, Demarara Syrup, Hazlenuts, Gingerbread, Blood Oranges, Leather Palate: Dr Pepper, Cinnamon, Nutella, Treacle, Honey, Almonds, Peaches, Butterscotch, Chocolate Covered Cherries, Root Beer, Brown Sugar, Nutmeg, Tobacco, Leather, Dates Finish: Caramel, Bananas Foster, Burnt Honey, Dark Chocolate, Root Beer, Dr Pepper, Cloves, Cinnamon, Raspberries, White Chocolate Syrup

Pour: Glencair, Dark brown, tobacco Nose: Corn, slight medicinal alcohol, faint sweet brown molasses note deep in the glass. Taste: Proof and pepper punch immediately, fades into honey and molasses, oak with a slight smokiness Finish: As this sits, the nose just gets better. A lot more of the brown sugar and barrel shine through when some of the alcohol fades off. One of my favorite BP offerings and will always buy every bottle I get an opportunity at.

Nice flavor bomb and quite smooth for the proof. Im not a garrison small batch fan but this one is far better than small batch and impressive as a craft bourbon. I don’t know if I’d pay to have a bottle on hand but it is damn good and changed my mind about GB as a whole. As others have noted it’s a whole different thing and hard to compare to other Kentucky bourbons.

Nose: Praline Pecans, Walnut, Brown sugar, Molasses, Rich oak, Toffee, Leather, Clove, Anise, Dates, Dark Chocolate/Coffee, Palate: Bittersweet coating, Pecan, Oak, Coffee, Dark Chocolate, Toffee Finish: Praline Pecans, long hug, Bitter Coffee that develops into sweet stewed dates and Raisins.
