Review for Gibson’s Finest 18 Year Venerable. Dangerously smooth and sweet. Well balanced with soft caramel, oak, floral, and soft spice notes. I assume it’s more robust than the 12 year but it’s so smooth it’s hard to tell. It’s great but for the age and the price I wish it had a bit more oomph to it. The original 18 Year Old Rare has such rave reviews. I wonder if this is really true to that legacy? $90 in Ontario.
About this bottle
The Gibson brand is well-known in Canada but its roots actually began in pre-Prohibition America, as a Pennsylvania rye whiskey, before production eventually moved across the border. Gibson's Finest 18 Year is made by blending together grain (corn) whisky, with rye and malted barley. Each component is distilled in either a column or pot still and maturation is spent in both ex-bourbon and new oak barrels. Although bottlings still currently exist in the market, it is likely no longer in production.

My favourite whisky of all time. Fruity, creamy and rich. Smooth yet complex and interesting. The flavour lingers in the mouth for a long while after you've swallowed. Simply delicious.
