Review #50 - Whisk(e)y #34 Bought as 100ml, as part of Glenmorangie 12, 14, 15 tasting set, thus not the best price per ml. Chill-filtered - Yes Artificial Colour - Yes ABV - 43% Aspect - short-medium legs, deep-gold colour, copper hue. Nose - clear sherry influence, darker fruit, indistinct dried fruit, prominent oak and sharp oak spice, vanilla and some honey. Palate - quite mouth-coating, on the front end there is a much lighter fruit note, unknown to me, mouth-numbing very sharp spice, chilli, but fades away quick, leaving an oilyness, with extremely subtle malt influence. Finish - very short, dryness, oak, subtle dried fruit (fig, dates, raisins). After-taste is very subtle but presents more pleasant sherry-cask qualities, with minor bitterness. Water sharpens the nose even more, bringing forward the oak, however it heavily mellows the spice notes on the palate, maintaining the woodiness. Slightly better taste with dilution. Extensive oxidation brings forth crispbread, sweetness, creamyness, and makes the sherry shine through a bit more...tastes great then, but that is 2 months after a more than half empty 100ml bottle... Glenmorangie is a overall major disappointment for me. Overly spicy, either very short finishes, unbalanced palates, or both. Too much oak. Out of the 12yo, 14yo quinta ruban and 15yo lasanta...15yo is decent but Glenfiddich 15 is waaay better, 14yo Quinta Ruban is unique, and the 12yo...I don't even want to talk about it. Representative finishes which are interesting, but not helpful if the base is overoaked and has problems. Rating System: 5.0 - Perfect 4.5 - Exceptional 4.0 - Very Good 3.5 - Good 3.0 - Decent 2.5 - Average 2.0 - Below Average 1.5 - Barely Drinkable 1.0 - Undrinkable 0.5 - JB

I can’t get over how good this whisky is. For under £50, it’s absolutely incredible. Nose: Thick honey and toffee upfront, with rich red fruits and a real sour red wine note that’s just beautiful. There’s subtle spice underneath, and smoke is barely there—just enough for texture. Palate: Fruity upfront, then the spice rises and develops perfectly. Every note ties together beautifully; the red wine influence lingers alongside the honey and toffee, giving a complexity that feels seamless. Thick, punchy, and utterly rewarding. Finish: Long and oak-driven, with gentle spice. The red wine, honey, and toffee all linger, evolving across the finish. Every sip is layered, balanced, and captivating. This is exactly the kind of whisky I love—rich, multi-dimensional, and full of flavor. Honestly, more people should try this; it’s one of the most enjoyable drams I’ve had in a long time. Score: 9.5/10 🥃

An elegant, Single Malt Scotch from Highlands, Scotland by Dr Bill Lumsden aged for 15 years in a combination of bourbon & sherry casks before being bottled at 43% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of grain, wood, nuts, fruits, herbs & spices; while a rich & complex life adds notes of honey, floral malt, chocolate raisins, currant buns & caramel; that led to a balanced death of medium length with notes of oak, cinnamon, clove, toffee & chocolate nuts, leather, candied orange, honeyed dates & molasses.

Just another tasting experience, not the best and not the worse. A bit surprising that after 15 years in a barrell, this whisky is still acidic and somehow harsh. Luckily a caramel note is making it more interesting. So, give it s chance, without expecting to find the whisky if your life.

Typische sherry whisky. Hout, toffee, rood fruit, gedroogd fruit, rozijnen. Doet me sterk denken aan Aberlour 14.

On the rocks, smooth. Sherry is noticeable. A bit of chocolate and fruit
