About this bottle

This blended Scotch whisky was announced in July 2018 and consists of whiskies aged in three different types of barrels: virgin oak, American oak, and refill bourbon barrels. As the name would suggest, there is peated Scotch whisky in the blend. This is expected to launch in the second half of 2018.

Nose: A rather sour grainy cereal note and some thin malty aromas. It's very spirity and full of the smell of young, low quality grain whisky. There is no cask presence at all (these barrels must have been on their very last legs) and no aroma of smoke. A very poor and generic nose. Palate: A hard, hot, and unpleasantly spiky arrival that turns instantly into bitterness accompanied by some of the worst "smoke" I've encountered on a palate. It doesn't taste like real peat-reek at all, it's more like some sort of dosage, like the awful boisé that is sometimes added to cognac, or the flavour of home-made whisky force-matured with oak chips. The texture is thin and watery. Finish: Blindingly short. A sweet/sour aftertaste lingers, but it's just the sweetness of alcohol. Horrible. I had hopes that the smoky version of Grant's bottom-shelf blended scotch would be an improvement over the standard version, but it's just the opposite. This is quite possibly the worst blended whisky I've ever tasted, and just to rub salt into the wound it is far from the cheapest bottle on the shelf. "Spurn It As You Would A Rabid Dog" : 55/100 (0.5 stars)

Better than I expected from Grant's. Nose: Charred smoke, Highland peat, plus the classic grainy profile of the base Triple Wood. I actually didn't enjoy that base one at all, but this Smoky edition does have some interesting character to it. Taste: Smoke to Highland peat, then a fair share of grainy notes that surprisingly taste better than the base edition. I'm very tempted to say I actually like this blend. Finish: Smoke and peat closes out the dram with a moderate finish for its class. Final thoughts: I tried this after Teacher's and I can firmly say this is a bit of an upgrade, if you're looking for a peated blend. The peat here is very light and mellow, but nicely weaved into the classic Grant's profile, which usually has nothing interesting to offer. I would consider buying this again for mixing.

Krásně jemná, smoky prakticky vůbec, ale komplexnější než ta klasická triple wood. V kategorii easy whisky na popíjení k nějaké činnosti je cena/výkon super, nenáročná, ale neurazí, vlastně mě to bavilo

Huhuhuman 2.3

Grain, honey & lots of booze. It gets to dissolvent-like tones. Touch of peat is present near the finish, but it gets overwhelmed by the burning sense of alcohol. Still, better than the regular Grants.

igorb 2.5

Subtle smoky taste, fading into sweet buttery toffee, very young. Some grainy notes with sweet fruitiness. Short finish

konung 3.0

A bit of smoked and woody taste with alcoholic richness makes this quite drinkable for a Grants
