The nose is a nice mix of dark chocolate and charred oak with a slight sweet fruitiness to it. There is a vanilla creaminess that lies underneath with brown sugar and the slightest bit of toffee. The palate is gentle with black pepper hitting the corners of the mouth with vanilla and charred oak hitting the back of the tongue. Dark chocolate swirls around the mouth with every chew, but in all this is very simple yet shows a lot of potential. It definitely features what you would expect in a wheater, but could stand to be a bit more bold. The finish is medium with a lingering dark chocolate and charred oak as a vanilla sweetness fades in the background. While it does taste good, you do get the impression it is somewhat out of balance with heavy oils. Definitely something to be careful with. Aftersniffs: The aftersniffs exude rich mahogany intertwined with notes of hard salami. The latent aftersniffs are a robust mix of a late night Greek deli mixed with the Lancome counter in Macy's circa 1998.

The NOSE was not pronounced for me. I picked up the obligatory hints of alcohol. However, I discerned some leather and tobacco, as well as a hint of caramel and/or spices. The taste is somewhat complex for me. On the initial taste/“chew”, I get hints of spearmint and mint, mixed with some wood, roasted nuts, and grains (wheat and grass). After that burst in my mouth, it brings warmth, viscosity, and more of a “chew” style of impression. There is a definite warmth that overtakes my mouth and almost develops into a “Kentucky hug” of warmth and richness. However, there is no burn down my throat at all, which is very good for me. The finish is very long, warm, and “cozy”. The combination of great taste, warmth, smoothness, and a hint of a “Kentucky hug” on the finish, causes me to desire another wonderful sip. In short, this is an excellent wheated Bourbon and GREEN RIVER DISTILLERY has done themselves proud by it.

I rate this a 3.75 because it’s so pleasant and easy sipping. It won’t hit you in the face with flavor nor is it powerful on the nose, but it is delicious and has plenty of complexity for a daily drinker. As a person who normally prefers higher proof bourbons, I was pleasantly surprised with this 90 proof offering, especially for $35. This one is a bit more refined than your average sub $40 bottle. Also, this bourbon really benefits from a glencairn glass as the nose is much more prominent than in a rocks glass. Nose- Candy corn, honey, peach, bready Palate- brown sugar, oak, peoper, peach, clove, nutmeg, peanut brittle, Incredibly smooth, no heat.

The nose is more of a gentle sweetness that caresses your nostrils like a carmel syrup scent. Maybe even like a light refreshing cucumber note as well. On the palate it has hs a bit more of a bite to it than what I was expecting almost as if it has a bit higher rye content. The main contributing profile, though, is that carmel or candied apple taste that sticks with you from the front end all the way to the finish. I'm not getting a whole lot else to it but it's an enjoyable sip especially for those who like a sweeter profile.

Review #250 Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Caramel and vanilla with some sweet bread notes. Palate: Cinnamon and clove with more sweet bread notes. Finish: Medium length with medium heat. Splash: Baking spice notes appear. Overall: 8.5/10 - This is my first bottle from Green River, and at the proof and price I was expecting an average wheater. This exceeded my expectations, although there’s only so much you can do with 90 proof. With a little more proof this could easily be a 9+.

Nose is very nice .. diffing deep can get a tea note whixh is always a great note for me. Taste is also very pleasant and would say its a strong 3.25 rating and could go to a 3.5. For a wheated puts out a fair amount of spice and really is a an easy 90 proofer. I do enjoy the standard Green River product more as it gives off that very nice raison note and juat and overall better 90 proof pour. Did this in a wheated blind and it blew away Weller SR so well worth a pickup.
