Open 2 months Nose - Pine Sol, lemon custard, fresh-cut grass, butterscotch, juniper berry, and medium ethanol. Palate - Lemon bars, lemon custard, citrus household cleaners, light dill, and light ethanol that is smooth on the tongue. Medium-short finish with some rye pepper spice, pine sap, and lemon custard. I got a sample of this from my friend, his wife picked it up in Virginia without any background information. I was extremely skeptical given the long name and convoluted label. This seemed like overpriced, young sourced rye. But, it's actually not half bad. If you like the more lemony and pine aspects of rye you might like this. It tastes like a younger Old Scout Rye, but heavy on the household cleaner element. This newer distillery may have some good stuff down the line if this 2 year rye is what they're making or sourcing.

It’s December 16, and I’m going to try a new rye whiskey every day this month. And while my rye game is not as weak as my Scotch game was this time last year, I’m always up for suggestions on good rye whiskies. And now that I have goals (it’s good to have goals), there are some key players I could use your help finding. Send me your most intense contender. Goals (abridged): 5 ryes. 4.5 stars. Readily available. (3/5, WT101, Whistlepig 10, Whistlepig 12) I want to recognize the difference between any bourbon and any rye. First try. One of these must be an Empire Rye. I want a raunchy rye. I want the one that tastes like accidentally using the pour side of the crushed red pepper instead of the shake side but then eating your rotini anyway. >>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Great story and great rye. Well balanced heat thoughout. A great amount of flavor for such a young rye. Caramel and rye early. This turns to a burnt caramel and leather flavor later. Finish is moderate but pleasant with a little bitterness. Would happy to drink alone or in a cocktail.
A gift bottled shared with and from Brendan Conery. Smell is sharp and you g with rye spice aroma and a touch of carmel. Taste is VERY young and green - good whiskey, but tastes like it needs more age. Pretty bad on its own, would prefer in a drink.
Nose: sweetness, caramel, vanilla, faint apricot Taste: explosive, taste like it has vermouth already in it Overall: my favorite of the bunch, this is great on its own and will be amazing in a sazerac
It's ok if you like mint forward ryes but there are definitely better for the price. Mint, baking spice, caramel sweetness. It's pretty straightforward and not complex and not really viscous.
