About this bottle

The trend of no-age-statement releases continues with this Irish whiskey expression from Pernod Ricard subsidiary, Irish Distillers. Released in April 2016, Jameson Crested is a triple-distilled blend of pot-still (malted and unmalted barley) and grain whiskey. A high proportion of the blend has maturated in sherry casks, with the rest in ex-bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 40% ABV.

This expression of Jameson jumps out of the glass just like the original, with bright shiny fruit right up front. Unlike the original though, this has a little more to offer if you stay with it a bit longer. The nose smooths out but remains firm, with loads of toffee and malt, and then that sweet funk of sherry. If your used to Jameson, you think you know what to expect, but initial sip presents a rich, oily body that makes me secretly hope someone rolled a barrel of Redbreast across the shop floor. That body gives you what the nose foretold, more cream and toffee, followed by grain and malt, with some spices on the back end. Not quite baking, but not quite pepper either. The finish is where you can really identify the price point vs some of the more premium Irish.. good notes of sherry and some warmth, but rather flat and gone pretty quickly. This whiskey feels like the older brother to the classic, and totally deserves to be on the shelf. When you want a light, cheap tasty Irish then go for classic, when you want a darker, mellow more mature version, grab the Crested for 15 dollars more. Great whiskey for the price indeed.

Strooong vanilla sweetness on the nose. It really doesn’t give any indication of the rich assortment of flavors you encounter on the palate. The taste is buttery, bread-y and even a touch spicy at the front. It then gives way to a delicate and creamy sweetness that’s characterized mainly by cinnamon and vanilla. The finish is almost indescribably smooth. There is absolutely no burn whatsoever, but there is still flavor. I don’t know if this is the best Jameson out there, but it’s certainly gotta be in the conversation.

Although its purpose is to represent Jameson in the Sherry segment, you can definitely feel the dominance of a bourbon cask. Honey maple butter and slight toffee on the nose with pepper and ginger coming out as an effect of the pot-still. Toasted wood, sweet cake, slight honey and vanilla on the palate. Then the finish is lingering with sherry notes. Not well-balanced from my point of view. Too sweet, without anything explosive and different from sweetness.

Probably the best whisky, so far. Its sweet but no too sweet, it isnt a bourbon-type but still the irish, and a good one for that matter. No smoke or peaty at all, for those who just dont like that, as I dont too. A proof for the aged-whiskie lovers that NAS whiskies can be really good, as long as its made with care, also a very cheap price for the quality!

Tasted from a 50 ml “Souvenir” bottle bought at the distillery. Sadly, not available in the US. Taste profile is very similar to “regular” Jameson, but with strong hints of sherry sweetness from the aging casks. Very easy drinking whisky that could easily become one’s daily dram.

Picked one up at the distillery on Bow st. in Dublin. Nice whiskey! Good vanilla notes, lots of fruity toffee on the nose with a medium, smooth finish. Probably my favorite Jameson I’ve tasted, thus far.
