Jameson Irish Whiskey

Review #11 - Whisk(e)y #7 Nose - light, inviting, with the most dominant notes being of vanilla and honey. There are also some hints of peppery spiciness to it and some citric notes. Palate - sweet, quite smooth and feels quite oily, the taste having dominant aromas of vanilla and honey, but with a much more pronounced spiciness to it, which may sometimes feel overpowering. There is also a hint of oakiness to it. Finish - is short-medium, pleasant, light and sweet, still with a spicy note to it. It is a good whiskey for the price, better than the Bushmills Original, but well below the Bushmills Black Bush. Also, I believe I would pick the Tullamore Dew over it mainly due to the less pronounced spiciness and much more refined taste. Rating System: 5.0 - Perfect 4.5 - Exceptional 4.0 - Very Good 3.5 - Good 3.0 - Decent 2.5 - Average 2.0 - Below Average 1.5 - Barely Drinkable 1.0 - Undrinkable 0.5 - JB

Jameson is the iconic Irish Whiskey and is one everyone needs to try at least once. It has a spicy, nutty, vanilla profile with a hint of sherry. It is not overpowering and could be too simple for a discerning palate. For those who drink Whiskey neat and seek a more complex Irish whiskey, give Teeling Small Batch a try. It is about $10 more a bottle. I have not reviewed Jameson Triple Triple or Jameson Black Barrel. Both have higher price points and have probably aged a little longer. I like Jameson. There are times when I like a simple whiskey, and Jameson fits the bill. As far as mixers, the Jameson Ginger and Lime is a refreshing drink. 1 part Jameson, three parts Ginger Ale (Fever-Tree Ginger Beer is a good recommendation), and one lime wedge. Cheers!

It’s been a while since I last tried Jameson white label and for good reason. There are so many better alternatives in Irish whiskey out there in a similar price range. Rubbing alcohol should never be a prominent note in any whiskey, yet rough vodka is the first note that I get on the nose and palate. These are some very old and tired casks which Middleton distillery is using. Brand recognition is a powerful tool. That’s the only possible reason I can find why anyone would drink this stuff regularly.

This distillate is perhaps the most popular Irish whiskey and is sold on a large scale in several countries. The sensorial influence of the barrel on the final flavor of Jameson is expressive, and the drink has an amber color, very aromatic, with many spicy, citric and woody notes standing out. It is not as full-bodied in the mouth, which makes it easier to drink compared to other whiskeys such as Scotch and American. Integrated alcohol and medium persistence finish.
