About this bottle

Jefferson's released their first (very small) batch of Ocean Aged at Sea bourbon in August 2012 with only 300 bottles for sale. This third batch has slightly more bottles to sell (about 300 barrels, rather than bottles) and was released in October 2014. Each batch has varied in time in barrel and time at sea along with the proof. The sourced bourbon is initially aged on land for six years before spending a further 6 months at sea. It traveled to five continents and crossed the equator 4 times before bottling.

CincyChops 2.5

This is for Voyage 23. Kind of a shallow taste profile. Has some spice that overpowers some sweetness, but hard to identify any of the specifics. Taste is the same from start to finish. Not impressed, especially at $80 a bottle.

Not much on the nose. Really smooth though with a little kick on the finish. Smokey with cinnamon and peanut notes. I do get some vanilla also. I really don’t get the fruitiness that other do. Nice sipper and will get again.

Toby 3.3

Vanilla and oakiness in the aroma. And bourbon, of course. While I'm not a big bourbon fan, I do like Jefferson's Ocean. It's probably because the bourbon flavor isn't so intense. Ratings based on neat sipping.

I think I get a hint of seaweed on the nose, but that's it. The taste leaves me somewhat flat. Maybe that's what it picked up being in the bottom of a ship. I'm with the "it's a gimmick" tasters on this one.

jdseybold 4.5

very well balanced. easy to drink neat or with a single cube. mellow spice, warm wood and slight peachy character, and I do get a little salty. almost like a sea salt caramel, but boozy. very nice!

FantasyandSomeFlights 4.5

Salted caramel in the nose. Salty in the taste and finish, might be psychosomatic. Low burn throughout, the aging shows. Some black pepper and thyme. Caramel continues to the finish. Wonderful.
