Classic Johnnie Walker Blue with just the right balance of peat and smoke. Orchard apples on the nose along with some cherry and strawberry. On tasting I get honey and butterscotch as well as a bit more of that apple and maybe a bit of cinnamon to make some apple pie on your tastebuds. Sufficiently thorough finish as it fades off with the smoke and peat lingering off as the fire burns out.
About this bottle
This is the fourth in the brand’s limited edition series, and contains liquid from rare casks from the Speyside “ghost” distillery of Pittyvaich, which closed its doors in 1993 after only 19 years. The whisky was blended by Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his team of whisky makers using eight whiskies from the four corners of Scotland. These also include those from other shuttered distilleries — Port Dundas and Carsebridge. The other whiskies in the blend come from Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore and Strathmill as well as the Highland whisky of Royal Lochnagar. It is bottled at 43.8% ABV, in individually numbered bottles, and is available as of October, 2021.
