For around the $20 range, this is a delicious bourbon. Nose is sweet vanilla and oak with hint of apples. On the palate it's those same flavors with a tad bit of smoke on the finish. Full, oily mouthfeel, unlike other bourbons at this price range (Heaven Hill Old Style). Not as rich as other Bourbons in a tier above, but still leaves you with a tingle even at 86 proof. Wanting a bit more complexity, but can't complain about anything else. Solid daily sipper.
About this bottle
Johnny Drum whiskey is named after the young men who enlisted in the Confederate Army and could only serve as drummers and messengers. The whiskey is sourced from Kentucky Bourbon Distillers and sold in a classic square bottle with a simple black label. As the older sibling of the Green Label, the Black Label is aged longer for at least 4 years and up to 12 years in new American oak.

For the money this is a great bourbon with a ton of earthy, oak and full vanilla flavor. if you enjoy a nice scotch and don't discriminate against bourbon, this could become a new favorite for you!
