About this bottle

Boys under the age of 18 that wanted to join the service during the American Civil War often were able to do so as drummers or messengers. This whiskey is named as homage of their service. This previously had an age statement of 15 years which has since been removed. Sourced by Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, this is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon bottled at 101 proof.

Erik Palmieri 4.5

Sweet vanilla caramel Cow Tails candy and candy corn, plus a hint of apple blossoms, premiere in the aroma. Continued nosing drums up barrel influence in the form of herbaceous spice, charred oak, and esters, all calling to mind such baked treats as banana bread and apple crumble. The longer you let it breathe the richer it gets, with dark maple syrup, honey, and molasses emerging amidst tobacco tinged suede leather and even a note of Oud. Spicy sweet on the tongue, like cinnamon Red Hots candy, summarily followed by caramel apple strudel, and chocolate pecan pie. Legs are wide set, marching slow and steady to the bottom while leaving a breadcrumb trail of droplets scattered in their paths. The mouthfeel is full and satiny. It finishes long with dusky tannins amidst residual sweetness and diminished spice. Traces of tobacco, walnuts, coffee, and cocoa can be found too. Holds up OK with ice, but this dram’s drumbeat is best enjoyed neat. Aroma: 10 Taste: 10 Body: 8 Finish: 8

Nose: Sweet, caramel, toffee apple, vanilla. There’s a dusty, old putty hint and a dry wood note Palate: Caramel, dry wood, vanilla, sweet apple, pear. Exceptionally dry and sweet Finish: Medium long finish. Tobacco, leather, white pepper, brown sugar. The aftertaste is sweet and tannic. This is definitely quaffable, but overly dry and plasticine. It’s a very decent bourbon, but leaves you a little wanting. OK, if a little dry…

Pleasantly surprised at the complexity of the bourbon. Has a coating, oily mouthfeel that I like. The nose is lacking much depth or statement, but the taste develops with a medium finish. The right amount of heat and pepper at the end that makes you nod your head and say ahhhhhh. With an ice ball it continues to develop and flavors emerge to keep the drink fresh and interesting. The price point makes it a sleeper by comparison.

There’s a bready sweetness to the nose, think toast with jam and confectionery sugar. A little heat comes through on the nostrils, but pretty light. The upfront taste is woody and spicy, but the sweetness quickly returns. Oak spice, cinnamon, and toffee. The finish is hot as well, and tends to stay that way, hiding much of an aftertaste.

N- really great nose- red hots, cinnamon, apple, carmel, cherry- really love this nose - F- was not as strong as the N- leather- oak- cinnamon-but not a wonderful burn or finish- if F was equal to the nose - it would be a must have bottle - still solid- especially for the price

I wasnt expecting much when i pick it up never seeing it where im from. For under 40 it pretty darn good glad i didnt look it up as the rest of their line up is a hard pass for me. The pot still is the only one i can tolerate the rest seem like im sucking on a mushroom
