About this bottle

Kavalan Triple Sherry Cask is the first release from the brand to feature three different types of sherry casks for maturation — oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, and Moscatel sherry. The brand fully matures new make spirit in each individual cask and then blends them in a marrying vat to allow the whiskies to rest and interact. Oloroso sherry is the main character of the whisky. This whisky makes its debut in the US beginning April 2024. (SRP $99.99)

The Taiwanese Masters of Whisky, Kavalan, have released a new very interesting expression, although a little low on Abv. This one is called "Triple Sherry" and as the name suggests, it has been matured in Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez and Moscatel casks. Bottled at 40%abv, it has a lovely red color. On the nose, this is exactly what you expect, a sherry madness. Lots of dehydrated oranges, red apples, lemongrass, watermelon and hazelnuts. Very fruity. On the palate this is very rich. Very winey; px sherry and blackberries. Aftertaste is all about lemoncello and tangerine notes. Very acid and a nice sour profile. Overall, this is a lovely everyday dram. Not expensive at all, it is hard to think a proper rival to this one for the price it goes. Incredibly enjoyable, i truly recommend this single malt. My score for it is 84 over 100.

Probably the best everyday Kavalan I have tasted to this date. Well, that is what I expected from Triple Sherry. Sherry dominance and variety on the nose - red apples, ripe pears, oranges, pleasant oats. Very rich on the palate - dominated by berries and red apples. While finishing, oranges become tangerines.

Oloroso. Pedro Ximénez. Moscatel. Aspecto más rojizo. En nariz cremoso y sutil. Complejo y suave. Manzana pasada. Ciruela seca. Frutos secos. Picor en punta de lengua, sedoso, licor de manzana. Fino equilibrio. Lindo final, suave y amaderado.

Very happily surprised by this Kavalan. I would prefer it compared to the Glendronach 12YO. Very smooth, sweet and oily. You can taste candied fruits, caramel and honey. I would say it’s multi-layered and perfectly balanced whiskey.

Nose: apple and pear to start, but the fruity aromas dissipated pretty quickly. As it progressed, more baked goods smells came through like brown sugar and raisin bread. Palate: orange peel
