An elegant, Single Malt Scotch Whisky by Kilchoman Distillery in Islay, Scotland made on-site in its entirety, from grain to bottle with peat from ocean-soaked bogs; before being aged in 70% Bourbon, 25% Port, 5% Oloroso casks. It was only marketed for the U.S. with only 1,260 bottles in existence. It has an aromatic birth with notes of citrus, red currant, peaty smoke & briny saltiness; while an elegant life adds notes of marmalade, tobacco, peat & vinaceous oak; that led to a balanced death of medium length with hints of port, toffee & cocoa. This is, simply put, extremely delicious and a fascinating mashup of Scotch with the darker, more caramelly flavors of bourbon. It’s very peaty, so this isn’t for those that don’t like that brand of smoke, but, if like, me love peat, this is basically a heavily plated Scotch with a finish that tastes like bourbon.
There’s an appealing floral nose floating above the smoke of this reasonably priced remix from Kilchoman. The taste starts sweet and tart before a vibrant pepper kicks in. It’s very different from the core range and interesting enough to warrant further exploration. Thanks for the sample @jonwilkinson7309!
I haven’t had a bad Kilchoman yet. This one is no exception. Their smoke and peat is wonderful and almost everything they do has a hint of sweetness. This one is a little honeyed and oak. But still the smoke is there. I will slowly buy every Kilchoman I can put my hands on.
Sweet and peaty notes on the nose. Peaty taste with a hint of cocoa on the palate with light smoky tones in the background and a tobacco aftertaste. Second time trying it and profile felt so much better, I really enjoyed it the second time around.
Flaviar Advent Calendar. Nose: peat, orange, leather. Palate: moderate sweetness, smoke, oranges. This is really good, not challenging for an islay and much sweeter. I need to investigate Kilchoman
