Nose - Rich dark berries, orange zest, candied ginger, dried cherries/cranberries/blueberries Taste - Dark cherries/blueberries, candied ginger "spice", dark apple juice backbone, dark chocolate, dark cherry juice Finish - Lingering light tingle, lightly tart but still sweet cherry juice, light dark chocolate cherry cordial Score - 86/100 Final Thoughts - So the tasting notes would lead you to believe that this is an absolutely amazing dram and although it's quite good, the flavors come in waves versus being a cohesive whole. This is very tasty overall, great nose, good on the palate, mediocre & kind of short finish. This is good, but for some reason it seems to be lacking something that binds it together. Open Date 3-1-2021 Review Date 4-1-2021 Bottle Contents Just below the shoulder @ top of Kirkland Label What can I say but I am totally disappointed at this early review of only 4 weeks open but below shoulder. This has less luster than a Loch Lomond 12 swill whisky. I see that this is bottled for Costco by Alexander Murray and company. Based on the Ultra low quality of this spriit I will never purchase anything from this independent bottle. This inferior product just hurts their brand and makes any serious Scotch fan go to Signatory Vintage products even more. This has the alcohol burn of a cheap whisky half its stated age. Is it really 23 years old? Its hard to believe. I wonder how much food color is in this whisky? From all the high reviews I was expecting something very tasty but my bottle at least this is shite!
Nose: fruit heavy, dark ripe orchard fruits, dark cherry, hint of orange citrus, sherry, cinnamon, allspice, baking spices, malty almost molasses quality, almond or amaretto, some slightly dank cereal notes, dusty leathery notes, tobacco, old oak, light ash char, deep and rich. Taste: just about everything mentioned above, a pleasant medium peppery note, brown sugar, dark fruits with that orange citrus note, nice oily coat on the palette, finishes well to a light ashy smoke. Another solid old Speyside in the Kirkland lineup. Yes, I’m sure you could cherrypick another well known brand that could “drink way better” than this. But for the price, this is pretty dang good.
Open Date 3/2/2021 Review date 4/26/2021 (after many tastings) Very cheap product. Whoever the buyer is @ Costco got taken to the cleaners by Alexander Murray % Company and obviously has no quality Scotch experience. Very thin on the palate. More like Sherry water than Sherry Scotch. Thin mouthfeel, and unmemorable finish.Waste of $80! I have 3/4 bottle for sale if anybody wants it.
Nose: Sherry, a little musty, cherry and sandalwood Taste: dark cherry, chocolate, spicey, tobacco and oak Finish: coats your mouth, spicey with Tobacco finish Tasted this blind. This is a good dram, but the quality doesn’t live up to the age. You expect more from a 23 year old Scotch, but it’s a great dram for price.
Relatively smooth but surprising one dimensional for a 23 year whiskey. Beautiful dark chestnut coloring and strong influence of sherry. Not bad for the price point if this is the taste you are going for but many younger age statements with more complexity on the market.
