I had much better hopes for this after how much I heard about this. NEAT NOSE - Everything about this whisky can be described as LIGHT and extremely FAINT (even the peat). The nose is fleeting. It is quite floral supported by faint notes of hay, honey, and vanilla. There is also a slight hint of lemon here. PALATE - Silky mouthfeel. Everything on the nose is present on the palate, but again everything here is soft and faint. On a scale of 0-10, all of the notes hit at a 2. This is extremely dissapointing given this being NCF at 46.3%. If I had to pick out the most prominent notes, I’d probably say the hay and vanilla. FINISH - Extremely short. Lemon and a tinge of smoke. BUY? - I’d recommend this as a introduction to peated whisky. BUY AGAIN? - With the likes of Port Charlotte 10 and it being around the same price point, I’m not sure if I’d re-up on this one. However, I am interested in seeing if there is any significant batch variation for the better so who knows.

Nose - It is dirty! Such strong chemical smells, wet rain, rubber and peat. I also get something savory, like bacon, medicine! Reminds me a little of lagavulin. Tongue - very medicinal, funky and dirty. Feels oily as well. I feel like it doesnt cover all areas of my taste buds. It feels like it falls off, but not in a bad way. Get some peat and herbs and grassy notes. After soemtime in the glass i get subtle hints of sweetness! It has a farmy quality, like a wet farmyard in the mountains! The finish is short. But a very interesting tasting dram! Very good! It is a stinky whisky that i feel like is not a cup of tea for everyone and is moody! But if you are in the moody you would thoroughly enjoy it!
Noticed the cork on this to be a pretty loose seal, hoping this doesn't take too much of a hit. Nose: rich, sweet, smoke, a bit of acridity. Cinnamon, spice, peppery. Sea spray. A little bit of smoked meat. A hint of black cherry? Palate: vanilla, cinnamon, lemon peel, a bit of chili and chocolate. peat is certainly here but I'm not getting it quite as much as on the nose and finish. Almost an herbaly anise note as it transitions to finish, like a whiff of underberg. Finish: lingering peat phenols, stormy coastal air, and a warmth that starts gentle but builds in intensity in the back of the throat, almost getting capsaicin in feeling
I heard the hype on this one and it surely doesn’t dissapoint. Ledaig enters in my selection of great whiskies! As the starting point, the cork has the island’s shape, which grabbed my attention. On the nose - immediately I smeled salt caramel. Citrus notes will come along and that maritime coastal breeze. On the palate - Salt caramel with lemon zest. The finish is prolonged with pepper. Maybe ginger, but its definetely a baking spice. Very good whisky. Every sip you have new notes coming. Very complex snd delicious! Cheers!
I dare say the hype is real with this one! For my taste I’d put this above any of the core range peated 10s or 12s. Character wise I’d put this somewhere between Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg 10……not quite as medicinal as the Laphroaig and not as campfire as Ardbeg but with the nutty character I get from the Ardbeg Corryvreckan. When the need for some peat comes up the Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength is still my go to but this strikes me as an easier drinking Ardbeg Corryvreckan…..that is to say, absolutely wonderful.
Nose: salty/briny smoke, rich pungent peat, medicinal, ginger, a slight floral tone, a bit of sweet vanilla and mint. Palate: full bodied and a bit oily yet light and goes down almost too easy, sweet citrus peel, creamy vanilla, pepper, ginger. Definitely some medicinal peat notes but they play well with the rest of the palate. Has a nice spicy bite on the back palate Finish: medium long, lingering smoke and saline ocean breeze, clove.
