The colour is very same to Inchmurrin, literally no difference. The nose contains almost no peat while the taste is full of peat and smoke. The aroma is heavily spiced with some herbal and medicinal notes combined with wood, malt and vanilla. The taste is much more peated, what really deflects it towards the Islay style. The sweetness is soft and less prominent than in Laphroaig for example - it tastes like a heavily watered sugary syrup. Many spices again and a boistering pepper. At first it can literally burn your tongue though it has only 46 abv. It’s closest alternative might really be the Laphroaig 10 but with some important remarks. The main thing that comes to mind to sum up the feelings is the one where the world of whisky represents the education system and Inchmoan is like a very hard-working student while Lagavulin, Talisker or Bunnahabhain are the professors. Inchmoan 12 tries to be a tough nut, shows much potential but lacks something significant in total. But if you are not ready to pay for the Islay giants then this peated recruit might become a great substitute.
About this bottle
Distilled at Loch Lomond distillery, this single malt is made from a combination of malt whiskies distilled there. Some is distilled in the traditional swan's neck pot stills and some in the straight-necked pot stills. Aged for 12 years in a mix of recharred American oak and refill bourbon, American oak barrels. Inchmoan gets his name from one of the islands on Loch Lomond and is Scottish Gaelic for "the island of the peat".

Peaty geen aroma, some sort of plant. Taste is also floral and green, it actually does kinda taste like seaweed. Body is pretty thin, so burn hits harder than I'd expect from the abv. The peat is heavy, and hits on the tail, amplifying the burn. Its not bad, and points for originality. But the combo doesnt work very well for me.
This is the smoky and spicy one, quite nice Definate honey notes and much better opened up with a little water, kills the spice down a bit. For a 12 year this is not bad at all. Look forward to teyong the reat in the range
Really enjoying this 2nd entry to the 2022 peaty whiskey advent calendar. Nose and palette have a chocolate-mint sweetness that I haven’t encountered before. This is nicely balanced on the palette with peppery peat and oak.
Evokes: a London townhouse with sooty bricks and a hot cup of black coffee in a thermos you didn’t rinse quite enough. A comforting scent of sweet smoke with a slightly sour, soapy, taste at the front. A sweet finish.
Nose: light smoke, some ethanol, fruit, ripe pear, Palate: sweet, smokey, then strong pepper Finish: starts with pepper, smoke, then sweeetnes joins and remains longer. Some dryness, ginger, herbal.
