This is the first bottle I try from Lochlea. It’s very interesting to see a brand new distillery from farmers produce such a great whisky that can be at the same level of any good peated whisky out there. Not to mention they are a Lowland distillery that is not known for peated whiskies. Although it’s a fairly new whisky, it doesn’t feel like it. It’s not as oily as a Port Charlotte, but it’s no thin as well. It’s got great legs and the scottish mist when some water is added. Shows a lot of integrity by being unchilled filtered and without added colors. On the nose, it comes with a good prevelance of lemon, some orange and a bit of green apple. A bit into it and you’ll get caramel toffee and mixing with the citrus is like a lemon cake. The palate goes to a more spicy feeling, like white pepper, ginger powder, star anise and then more lemony with cereal. There was a bit of cereal in the beginning and then it went away. The finish is not as strong, bit citrusy. For the hype that I heard, I was exoecting a little more complexity for a single cask. It’s not always we can afford these bottles. I was lucky to find this one on promo and got me a coupke. Slainte Mha!
