I really like the concept of the Lost Destillery products, even if I doubt it "scientifically". The smell is strong in surprising "sour mash bourbon style" way, sweet, sour, I smell ripe pears if I let it sit a bit. The taste is very nice, sweetish with little woody hints, bit cardamom spice but otherwise fruity, almost floral. There is nice burn at the end and also something like raisins in rum aftertaste. Very pleasant. As again with Distiller, there is bit confusion with ABV - they claim 41%, the picture of limited bottle is 45% and the regular bottle, which I have, is 43%.
About this bottle
A sad part of Scotch history is that many distilleries who were producing great whisky had to be shut down for economic reasons. Lost Distillery researches these "ghost" brands and recreates the whisky using a combination of documented evidence, knowledge of the distillery's former environment, and advanced whisky production knowledge as a guide. Jericho Distillery, founded in 1822 in the Aberdeenshire region of the Highlands was closed in 1913 due to the harsh market at that time. Please note, in the U.S., this brand is called Benachie. Everywhere else, it is called Jericho.

Nose: strong plum nose, immediately. Christmas spices. Very sweet. Palate: first friendly, fruity sweetness. Then spice kicks in and takes over the lead. Aftertaste: slight oaky bitterness, sweet spices. Almost pungent for me. At the end only dry bitterness remain for longer.
The nose is sherry like with dried fruit, chocolate, a touch of allspice and pepper. The palate is slightly oily and features the dried fruit with a bit of smoke, along with pepper to balance out the sweetness. The finish is medium and oily with fading dried fruit and pepper.
My favorite whiskey so far. Heavy burnt caramel and fruit cake. Sweet basil, clove, navel oranges, and light vanilla. A bit of generic sherry in there too. Extremely sweet and smooth.
Good everyday whisky. The concept of this distillery is very interesting. Recreating whisky with archives from the past of old lost distilleries.
Fruity, sherry with a reddish colour. Slight smell of a charcoal fire on the nose. Smooth during the start to middle - ends harsher. Nice!
