About this bottle

The founders of this distillery asked why there weren't any whisky distilleries in Sweden. Was it possible to make in their climate? Well, that question has been answered with a resounding yes. Aging this single malt whisky (produced with barley grown and malted in Sweden, thank you very much) they use virgin European oak grown (where else) in Sweden along with 1st fill American oak barrels.

Bois précieux, verveine, poivre, zestes d’agrumes (citron, pamplemousse). Style : gourmand, fruité Nez : mentholé Bouche : épices, guimauve Finale : vanille, poire Voir moins SAVEURS BoiséEpicéIodéTourbéFloralFruité (whisky.fr)

Mackmyra is the first malt whisky distillery in Sweden. I recall taking a "window shopping" trip with a friend to a local liquor store and we were taken aback when we noticed the First Edition of Mackmyra Single Malt on the shelf: "Sweden makes whisky?" My first impression of the nose is "Nordic in a bottle." Floral, apple, grass and crisp mountain air caressing pine trees. Later on, this nose transitions to a sultry citrus and caramel duo.  My early sips bring mouth tingling heat, subtle peat, and a minimalist's approach to caramel and orange. Over time, this similar flavour combination deepens with an addition of oak and star anise. For a lighter tasting whisky, the finish is surprisingly long with a dash of peppercorn. While this has a modest palate, I don't believe that whiskies need to blast you with spice, peat and sherry to have you take notice. I appreciate Mackmyra First Edition's uniqueness which fulfils the label text of being "a whisky for you who live life less ordinary." Mackmyra is certainly true to its name. 8/10

Sweden is finally on the whiskey producing map. They have a long way to go to catch up to Scotland and Japan naturally, but this first product of theirs seems promising. The nose is really weak, surprisingly so, and the taste is sharp and indicative of its young age...but strong influences of vanilla ( a bit different than the American oak vanilla...seems like an influence of the Swedish wood). Finish is short and sharp. This isn't one of my top 10, but it's really not bad especially considering f the price. I'm very much looking forward to a more mature product down the line from this distillery. Reminds me of how I first felt when I had Kilchoman ...new but promising.

A good whisky with some potential. Has a very nice vanilla, floral coconut, peach, creamy, and slightly spicy nose and goes down smooth. However, at times you will have an artificial vanilla coughdrop aftertaste but it goes away after some time.

Tried this on our 'Swedish Night' of the Whiskey tasting club. I found it a bit lighter than the others but still a bit sharp. A very decent whiskey at a much better price point.

A bit sharp. Water brings out the citrus. Better than Glenfarclas 21 which I tasted immediately before. enjoyed more second time round in a comparison with bunnahabhain 12
