A unaged Mezcal with a very subtle amount of smokyness. Its there, but mildly. The spirit is light, delicate and I couldn’t feel the aromas experts might have. It has a feeling of a sugar cane distilled rather than an agave one. It’s very citric, leaning heavily towards lime and lemon. Some light honey as well. On the palate, you’ll get the light smoke, but still the honey and like are prevalent and a bit herbal, maybe with some mint with it. As unaged, crystal clear spirit, it’s well rounded, smooth, lightly smoky and pleasant. No bite, mild heat with a good finish. Not extremely flavorful, but pleasant for a sip. Might be better for a cocktail. Cheers!
About this bottle
Distillate has been produced at Hacienda Jaral de Berrio since the late 18th century, when its Marquis was granted permission from the King of Spain to distill there in what was then "New Spain." Today, this tourist attraction in the borough of San Felipe Torres Mochas in Guanajuato is part of one of 8 states in the mezcal designation of origin. Here the Salmiana agave species is king, harvested at around 8 years and produced in traditional, conic stone ovens, crushed by tahona and distilled in alembic stills. The plata is bottled unaged.

An intense Agave Spirit by NOM-G33T crafted with 100% Salmiana agave using traditional methods. The Salmiana species is native to central & southern Mexico. It has a rich birth with notes of agave, vegetables, herbs & spices; while a vegetal life adds notes of roasted agave, red pepper & pine; that led to a long death with notes of cracked black pepper & caramel.
