Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye is made by taking fully matured Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Rye at barrel strength and finishing it in a secondary barrel. These finishing barrels are made from 24 month air-dried staves. The barrels were toasted, not charred. As the rye whiskey is bottled at cask strength, the proof will vary but the average proof for the 2020 release is 109.2. A limited amount of bottles will be released in September 2020.

Toasted marshmallow nose. Definitely more of a bourbon nose with some rye spice on the back end.
Very powerful and complex palate. Toasted graham cracker and caramelized sugar. I don’t like ryes but this is one I’ll look out for.
I use the rating scale below. Distiller uses a scale of 5 and I use a scale of 10, but I’m sure you’re not too drunk to do the math!
1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out.
2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice.

This one is hot. The sweet smokey after taste is unique, and something I really enjoy. Feels a bit unbalanced due to the overwhelming bite, but the finish is nice, and one of my favorite tastes. I’m sure a splash of water would tame it a bit, but for $80, I shouldn’t have to do that either....

Compared to 2017 this is smokier and dryer. Toasted oak in the nose. Campfire is the predominant flavor. Marshmallow and rye spice in the finish. Overall I find this to be a bit on the dry side and it would benefit greatly from just a little more sweetness.

This was pretty unique IMO
Nose: Smoky, crazy tobacco note, and spices.
Palate: Sweeter than it smells, brown sugar and spices with a bit of a black tea note.
Finish: Sweet brown sugar dominant.
You know it’s a rye, but that toasted barrel really sweetens it up.

Wonderful Med plus tawny color. Clear. Nose- sweet Ohio corn, molasses, vanilla, baking spices, toasted grains, dried sugared fruits . Palate- dried fruits, molasses, vanilla, toasted grain. HOT, long hot finish that lingers. Excellent !
