This limited edition rum is created at the Mount Gay Distillery in Barbados by Master Blender Allen Smith. It is created using a blend of copper pot and copper column rums ranging from 10-30 years of age. Released annually beginning in 2009, this rum batch has recently undergone an updated packaging and and was formerly known as 1703 Old Cask Selection. This release will have 12,000 bottles available worldwide.

Quite possibly the best rum I have ever tasted. Big and fruity on the nose and a bit smoky in the background. Mouth feel is divine. The biggest flavor that jumps out to me is dried apricots followed by a little smokiness and a wonderful sweetness. Finish goes on forever with more dried apricots.
Rich caramel on the nose with star fruit and other tropical notes. Doubly rich on the palate, viscous and round. Not for the faint of heart; there's more fire in this than the 43% ABV would lead you to believe. Lonnnnnnnng, tingly finish that keeps coming in waves. Wow, that's a rum!
Light fragrant nose full of fruits with hints of molasses and butterscotch. Palate hits smooth up front and ends with a long, lingering pleasant burn of a finish. Notes of caramel and banana blend into the barrel aged essence. Strong sipper. Excellent
Another top-shelf rum. This rum is magnificent and has a nice chocolate molasses and a little tobacco on the palate. The finish is what you will expect on a rum of this caliber. A little pricey, but is a rare find.
As far as I can tell it doesn’t get better than this in the rum world. Bananas, burnt sugar, clove, tobacco, a hint of smoke ...the list goes on. Reminds me of a great trip to New Orleans.
I was fortunate enough to try a glass of this at the end of the distillery tour. Unbelievable smooth on the palate, caramel and molasses. Lingering finish with virtually no after-bite.
