About this bottle

COLOR/ Caramel - Honey AROMA/ Candies, Sour, Honey, Sweet, Faint Alcohol, Clean, Ever So Slight Wood FIRST SIP/ Light, Sweet, Candies, Nuts, Spice, TASTE/ Sweetness, Carmelly Candies, Spice FINISH/ Surprisingly long, Sweet, Spice, Warming MT GLASS/ Wood, Sweetness 80 proof My Understanding is Heaven Hill however large and good they are has deemed that allocations of this fine bottle will be made available to Kentucky, Illinois and Wisconsin markets... Wisconsin! They corner the market on Korbel Brandy but that is another story... The original Old Fitzgerald was introduced in 1870 & maintains the traditional premium wheated whiskey mashbill that John Fitzgerald and Pappy Van Winkle established. This is Good, Not Bad Bottle of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that is nice, smooth, and Wheatie. Great for mixers! Neat, Rocks, if you can get it grab 2 bottles at this great price! This is like Supper Club Beer "Not Bad" it is a great inexpensive premium bourbon! Be Kind, Be Generous, Be Real, Be Responsible!!! CH33RS

This is a repost for a review I submitted a few days ago. The bourbon I was rating was this one and not Old Fitzgerald 1849. When I saw the different labels I just figured that there was a label change. Sorry, All. On a recent trip to Kentucky, I stopped at a few liquor stores to look for whiskeys and bourbons that I can't find in South Carolina. I was able to find Old Fitzgerald's 1849, Very Old Barton 86pf, and 90 pf. This is a review of the Old Fitzgerald and what a steal for between $12 and $14. The bourbon is light and sweet on the nose with vanilla and some ethanol as well and just a touch of oak. The body is a light sweet yeast bread or sweet roll taste with just a hint of burn and light caramel at the end. The finish was nice but not as long as I would have liked with the wood and caramel finishing it out. Overall, I would rate this a little bit higher but I can't find it here so while I would love to have this in my bar regularly it will only be here as long as this bottle lasts.

Picked up a handle of this while in KY. Yes, it’s only 80 proof and likely only 4 years old. But jeez, I was impressed by the flavors that were going on. Yesterday, I tasted and reviewed Basil Hayden’s 10 year rye, also 80 proof and costs 7 times as much. This more flavorful and I’m not sure how. The nose is far more clear, sweet basic bourbon flavors of caramel and vanilla, the palate brings that same sweetness and a touch of nuttiness and yeast/bread. The finish is expectedly short, but is a nice mellow end to the pour. Perfectly approachable and impressive for the price. I wish bottom shelf KY exclusives were available here in TX. As good as my beloved Ezra Brooks? No, but still a bottom shelf bargain.

The nose consisted of zesty orange and caramel, a little bit of vanilla, and definitely some ethanol. The dominant note on my palate was pancake batter, and there was caramel as well. The finish was short-lived and evoked tones of caramel and wood. However, after drinking this, I got a slightly unpleasant aftertaste which lasted for several minutes. This was good, and while the aftertaste was a little annoying, I felt that this was right about on par with the basic Maker's Mark offering.

I love the old fitz bib bottles I’ve had so let’s give this one a try! Nose: fruity and caramel but super faint. Palate: sweet up front with some rye spice coming through. Definitely a bit hot for being 80 proof. Finish: very very short and sweet. It’s like someone took an old fitz bib and only aged it for a couple years. Overall: not much too on this one. Didn’t expect much but there’s also not much there! $10 and I’d say better than its price but not much haha.

My sample is from the 1960s, and the nose starts of with oak upfront with spearmint and cherry syrup behind it, followed by vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and toffee. The palate has sweet oak mixed with baking spices that are stronger on cinnamon, along with butterscotch, vanilla, caramel and brown sugar, with a touch of cocoa powder rounding it out. The finish is long and oaky with baking spices that fade to lingering brown sugar and vanilla. Truly incredible.
