This whiskey smells like a bubblegum Irish whiskey with a strong dill aroma and some smoke. The taste comes forth with rye, bubblegum, clove, cinnamon, vanilla, banana, and cherry. It then tastes of buttery cookie, malt, smoke, candied sugar, clove, bubblegum, anise, mint, and cherry. It then finishes with multigrain bread, butterie cookie, smoke, vanilla, clove, caramel, cherry, and anise. The mothfeel is very smooth at first but becomes very peppery and spicy as it rests for longer in your mouth. It’s more rich and oily than Powers Gold Label, but not as much as Powers John’s Lane. Overall, it tastes like if Irish whiskey was made into a gum flavor. It’s much stronger in flavor than Powers Gold LabelI, but I think someone who isn’t a fan of the herbal and spice of rye will not enjoy it. It’s still very different than American ryes, being smoother and much more buttery. I certainly think it is one of the best whiskeys in the low $30’s range, although I’m biased towards ryes.

First rye that I've purchased that wasn't made in North America. Nose: Savoury, spicy and herbal. Unexpected and completely different than the sweet, caramel and caraway I'm used to with Canadian/American ryes. Palate: Fruitier and sweeter than the nose would indicate. The rye spice is there, but it's gentle. Christmas pudding in a glass. Finish: Lengthy with subtle oak and tart green apple. Full of flavour and yet it carries a gentle touch. Not at all what I'm used to when it comes to 100% rye mashbills. I hope to find more European ryes soon.
Nice lively rye aroma in the glass. Dark oak and young tobacco are also present on the nose. Light body, with a somewhat fruity entry. The rye spice is initially mellow, but picks up speed over as the tasting opens up. A fine, woody flavor, which is dry, but not overly tannic. The impression is reminiscent of roasted, lightly spiced tree nuts. The finish is medium-long with a slight mintiness at the tail end, with the lasting impression being of an easy going, friendly spirit ideal for mixing in cocktails. A welcome addition to the Powers portfolio.
I had high hopes and this Rye knocked it out of the park. It has a simple elegance to it. It has a rye kick to it but not like an american rye, but it comes in swingjng with nice notes of spice and gentle warmth to it. When i try it neat it has a sweet applely finish but over ice it finishes off with a peaty/earthy note. So not the most complex flavor out there but a very good sipper.
I enjoyed this for what it is: a lower tier experiment with rye out of Midleton. It didn't blow me away but it was a satisfying and easy to drink whiskey. As you might suspect, it lacks a traditional American Rye spice and leans into slightly fruity and sweet notes. I probably wouldn't buy a bottle myself, but I'd order it at a bar for a change of pace now and again.
Taste: It starts with mild graham cracker and vanilla up front. It finishes with rye spice and some fruitiness. The flavor is restrained, but it drinks smooth. Look: Golden leaning slightly orange Smell: Nose is pretty mild, but what is there is fruity and yeast-driven (orange and bubblegum)
