About this bottle

PUNI distillery was founded in 2010 by the Ebensberger family in the foothills of the Italian Alps. Their whiskies are billed as "malts" though instead of only barley, they use a mash bill recipe that also includes wheat and locally-grown rye. Vina is the premier of the distillery's limited edition wine cask-matured whiskies, aged for 5 years solely in ex-Marsala casks from Sicily.

Gigiomix 4.5

And who would have thought one day to try an all-Italian whisky ??? Predominant both nose and palate of raisins and walnuts, marsala feels great and is a positive feeling: it strongly characterizes the product. Very pleasant, especially on the palate: full-bodied despite its young age, good to drink also as an aperitif. In short, successful! The finish is a little short and weak, where I feel a slight musty aftertaste, but you can forgive it. Other than that the vote could be a 4.1-4.2 so not bad! Let's give 4.5 of encouragement, because I am now very curious to try older bottlings given the exceptional work done here with only a few years of experience on my shoulders (let's not forget that we are talking about a company born in 2010, against distilleries operating from 200 and years!) The bottle is also very beautiful, which reminds me of a famous futurist work by Bertelli.

Rosencrantz 3.5

The nose is immediately wrapped in cereals soaked in wine (try it!), accompanied by lots of orange, honey, raisins. The profile is very warm, soft and sweet, at times almost cloying. Christmas is already a memory now, but at times it almost makes one think of the typical Italian cake, panettone. On the palate alcohol makes itself felt more than it should, and flows into the mouth with a certain astringency. The sweet profile from the smell here is dampened by an underlying acidity that breaks the balance in a disordered way: candied orange, yellow fruit and alcohol, almost (God forgive me) a hint of grappa. Something went wrong, the promises of the smell are broken and you feel a little almost betrayed. The finish is medium, cereals return along with alcohol and orange.

skibeast 4.5

Very pleasant, sweet, and approachable but still surprisingly complex. Nose - smells like a charcuterie board without the meat or cheese, walnuts, raisins, figs, honey, a bit of marmalade Taste - sweet honey, spiced figs, dried apricot, and walnuts Finish - long and sweet, just like after a spoonful of honey, very mild burn

Marcel B 3.8

Nose: Sweetish ( port character), almond, raisins, marsipan. Well balanced, smooth, velvety Taste: various sweet tones, difficult (for me) to distinguish the individual components. Faint bitter note. Finish: maybe the only somewhat disappointing feature. Quite short, the bitterness coming forth.

Marcel B 4.0

Nose: concentrated sweetness of dried fruit, raisins, marmelade Taste: bittersweet syrup mouthfeel, a bit toffee like, pure chocolate, and very slight pepper note Finish: quite long, warm, concentrated sweets, with a more pronounced bitterness

This may deserve a bump in rating as I adore the honey-drenched components at play. Still, there is a slight shortness of subtlety here... overall, still pleasantly enjoyable though I worry I may not remember much about this in a few months.
