The nose is beautiful - bright overtones of risen rye dough and baking spices, layered over warm toffee and vanilla. The bright rye spice leads the flavours on the palate, but fades quite quickly into smooth, darker notes, almost bourbon-like. The finish is a little peppery, moving into dry oak. Overall a nice sipper with a splash of water, and makes a killer old fashioned. Could be a good introduction to rye if you like the higher rye bourbons like Bulliet or Four Roses. Bought for £38 from Amazon UK (about $50 US), which i think is a fair price for the quality. I wouldn’t want to pay any more though. The three year old (non bottled-in-bond) version is also very good if you prefer a lower proof.

(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual American Whiskey Tasting, 3rd July 2021). Nose: Dried light fruit (apricots), slight sourness, buttered popcorn. Very light on the nose. Palate: Intense mouthfeel. Light spice, buttercream, clean and mild. Finish: Short finish. Light spice, oak, vanilla, leather. Light sourness on the aftertaste. 73% Rye 15% Corn 12% Barley Empire rye from New York State. This has a lovely burst of flavour, but it quickly disappears on the finish. Came second out of the six drams, with 23% (3 votes) of the final vote for favourite of the night. 92% (12 votes) of those present said they enjoyed the whiskey.

The color is a vibrant gold which irregularly coats the glass with a nose that starts with a floral rye spiciness, vanilla, cherry liqueur, charred oak and a hint of caramel. The palate is somewhat rich and fills the mouth with a smooth rye spiciness that is balanced by vanilla, along with charred oak, cherry liqueur, caramel and a slight astringency mixed with cinnamon. The finish is medium long with fading rye and vanilla, while the astringency blends with cinnamon and the charred oak.
