When i first opened this bottle i was not impressed and found the Mexicano competent but unremarkable…….now that I’m about halfway through the bottle im hustling to get another bottle. Either the spirit changed or my palate did but this is now a spicy wonderful Mexcal. This and the Tepextate are my two favorite Rey Camperos.
About this bottle
Rey Campero Mexicano is produced from 100% Agave Rhodacantha harvested in pine and oak forests at high altitudes. The agaves are roasted in earthen ovens, ground in mule-powered stone mills, fermented in wooden casks and double-distilled in a copper alembic still.

Very interesting. On the nose very much like paint and nail polish remover HOWEVER on thenpalate ots surprisingly different than the smell and delcious. Smoky, smooth, earthy and yum. Tried neat in sayulita
Takes like 12-15 years to mature. Light smokiness, smooth finish, lightly spicy. Definitely would buy it if possible.
This one is mostly smoky and salty, only a little sweet and fruity. Reminds me most of Tobasiche. Excellent 95
100 points. Likely the best mezcal i ever had. Intense umami flavors, ultra long finish, balanced.
Very nice one, top 10 for sure, but not top 5
