Total Wine and More Single Barrel. Barrel # 8520334 Barreled 09/23/19, Rickhouse 8, Floor 4 Nose brings spearmint, dill pickle, pencil shavings, vanilla wafer, hard caramel candy, popcorn, and rye spice. Ethanol nicely low. Palate opens with heavy dill from the nose; along with candy corn, cedar, buttered corn on the cob, nougat, and mint. In many ways I’d say drinks more like a high-rye bourbon than a rye, but that dill note is pretty punchy, with the rest of the flavors being slightly flat. Short finish brings slight spice bloom of cinnamon and black pepper, orange slice candy, and Spanish peanut. Mouthfeel is thin, but thankfully oily as hell and not grainy. Interesting candy flavors mixed with spice. I can’t believe how different this is from the standard release. Very unique. At $35.99 it’s practically a steal and a sneaky rebuy candidate but I have to remind myself to choose “very good” over newer, sexier optins.

Barrel number 8663538. Aroma is pleasant with rye and oak. Flavor is a touch sharp with lots of rye and higher alcohol. Straight, it's a bit rough, but as a old fashioned i think it has decent character.
