About this bottle

Diageo re-entered the growing Irish Whiskey category early 2017 by releasing Roe & Co, a blended Irish whiskey made from grain and malt whiskeys. Roe & Co Irish Whiskey matured in bourbon casks, a great proportion of which were first-fill barrels. Bottled at 45% ABV without chill-filtration. (SRP $34.99)

A rich, Blended Irish Whiskey by master blender Caroline Martin for Roe & Co Distillery aged exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks — most first-fill. It’s named after the George Roe & Co that once owned the Thomas Street Distillery in Dublin — the largest in the world at the time. It has a strong birth with notes of vanilla creams & pralines; while a spicy & velvety life adds notes of ripe pear; that led to a delicate death of medium length with notes of biscuit & sugar. NOSE Dried orchard fruit and banana chips, birthday cake with vanilla frosting and some notes of baking spice and copper. There is a solid malty presence here, or at least it’s presenting that way with the sweetness. PALATE Banana, caramel, malty sweetness, baking spice, copper and a bit of vanilla and copper. Palate is like a slightly toned down, but more refined, version of the aroma. FINISH Medium -> Baking spice, vanilla, dried fruit and a some oaky hints.

Heady nose of caramel and vanilla leading the parade. Light entry that quickly transforms into a sweet and lightly oaked flavor bomb. A somewhat chewy mouthfeel, with warm, round, near creamy notes on the palate. Interestingly, there is a modicum of peppery spice here, which lingers long on the tongue. This may be due to the slightly higher ABV. Overall, a perfect palette for creative cocktails, or enjoying over a few rocks to share some Irish craic at your next gathering.

Butter cookie with vanilla and the slightest hint of banana on the nose, and down the middle shortbread sugary sweetness on the palate with an impressive amount of barrel character on the finish that turns into tannins after an average amount of time. Nice pour

sderrick 3.8

Dark bitter chocolate and oak on the nose. A sweeter but still chocolate first taste, with more spice than most Irish. Other hints of leather, molasses, and nutmeg. An oily finish with cinnamon and a bit of a bite. Good dram at the price point.
