I've never tried "good" grappa before, so I'm really curious about this. Growing up in an Italian household, my father gave us a tiny bit of grappa in an effort to turn us off all alcohol. It actually worked surprisingly well based on the fact that whatever he gaves us probably would have been better used to fuel a Fiat. At any rate, let's see what Poli has to offer here. Nose: Definitely grappa, but soft and loving. Very fruity with some vanilla. Palate: Velvety smooth and delicate. Along with the grape skins, hints of peach and apricot. Finish: Instantly morphs into a Chardonnay-esque oakey white wine flavour. Lingers and is absolutely delicious. Damn. If my Dad had given this to us, we'd likely have ended up as raging grappa-holics by age 16. Absolutely delicious and completely changes how I look at the spirit type.
About this bottle
Sarpa di Poli comes from the Poli family in northern Italy who have been distilling grappa for over 100 years. "Sarpa" in the Venetian dialect means "grape pomace" which is the foundation for grappa. This bottling is a blend of grappas made from the pomace or skins of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

An intense, young Grappa by the Poli Distillery in Schiavon, Veneto, Italy made with a blend of 60% Merlot & 40% Cabernet pomace distilled in an alembic still with 12 copper cauldrons. It has an aromatic birth with notes of herbs & flowers; while a bold life in blooming garden adds notes of mint, rose & geranium; that leads to a long & intense death with notes of plum, grape & fig. From KL Wines “The Jacopo Poli Sarpa is a perfect grappa for those who like a young, dry style that is very rich and complex.” Complex notes on the nose and body with crisp sweet finish that begs for another sip. Delicious
My favorite grappa for past 15 years. Delicious after dinner brandy! Sweet, musky, grapey, pear, plum, slight alcohol burn on backend to compliment the sweetness of the nose.
