I can see why this 14 year old just didn’t make the “cut”. The nose is bright for a 14 year old whisky. The peat comes through but very singular with just campfire. There is no astringency or smoked fish or hints of the sea. There is a small hint of vanilla and cinnamon. The palate follows the nose with pretty muted tones of peat and vanilla but the cinnamon didn’t make it through. The finish is like a firecracker. Hint of pepper and gone as fast as it started. Price point on this bottle is about $25 too high

Sweet smoky aroma, faint pear. Flavor is lighter than expected. The peat is on top of a light barley sweetness. It's pretty thin and light, like a more tame laphroaig. Almost no tail, disappears pretty quickly. Great balance though.

Not a bad malt but definite room for improvement. Some peat and salt is in there, but there's also a couple of prominent sour notes that don't really work for me.

Smoother than I expected. Not as peaty as I would like, but this is only my second scotch taste, so take this review with a grain of salt. :-P

Nose: Palate: light Islay, stays with the theme of shieldaig, although the burn at the end keeps you from tasting more of notes

Peat smoke dominates the nose and palate, with a pleasant saltiness in the background. Very affordable for a 14 year Islay.
